Role Summary: A Field Service Engineer (FSE) is an expert in the installation, maintenance and repair of rotating equipment within the field. An FSE (Control) or (Electrical) plans, directs, supports, supervises and inspects site activities performed by craft labour working on control/ electrical systems for GE turbines, compressors and associated equipment. A Resident Engineer is an FSE assigned to long term projects providing support for GE rotating equipment installations within a customer’s plant.
Essential Responsibilities: • Interacts with GE engineering and management teams to ensure that site activities progress, according to GE technical requirements and project schedule and budget requirements. • Planned maintenance outages and unscheduled maintenance events, • Perform inspection, checks and testing of electrical systems and/or control systems used on GE equipment during both installation and maintenance activities. Identify issues, fault-find and problem solve to ensure smooth and timely progression of the works. This often requires GE engineering and off-site support personnel to be driven to meet client site time lines. • Represent GE’s interests to the client for all assignments. This requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain a positive and constructive relationship with clients at all levels. • Provide technical advice and support to clients and craft labour in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of GE equipment. This will involve accessing GE’s eTools system to locate and source technical information including reports, drawings and Bills of Material, interpret this information in line with GE requirements and advise the client. Interaction with the GE engineering team both locally and internationally is also required. • Act as a single point of contact between clients and the greater GE Oil & Gas organisation for technical issues. • Ensure all in-field activities are carried out safely complying with company environmental Health & Safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures.
Qualifications/Requirements: Qualifications Engineering Degree/High School Technical Diploma or equivalent business experience. Experience From 5 to 7 years of related working experience in Oil & Gas industry within maintenance or installation field activities. DLE Mapping 1.5 MKVIe and MKVIeS Control Systems CCC Anti Surge Power Generation and Mechanical Drive Application. Technical Knowledge Solid understanding of the design and operating philosophy of gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors and/or their control and electrical systems. Strong knowledge of GE product-specific rotating equipment maintenance and operation. Ability to understand technical drawings. Skills Knowledge of GE information and management systems such as e-Tools and Oracle.
