Role Summary: The Engineering Project Manager will define project execution requirements, project deliverables, project plans and schedule, and will direct the efforts of an engineering team to execute the project. In this role you will also be responsible for coordinating system engineering, development, test and validation activities, and may need to interface directly with various internal stake holders.
The Engineering Project Manager will be accountable for planning, analysis and reporting of the NPI portfolio for Train Performance
In addition, you will:
Work closely with Program Managers, System Engineers, HW & SW Engineers, and cross-functional teams to plan and drive the execution of engineering activities
Demonstrated ability without oversight to provide project status, challenges and execution options at the CTO and GM level
Develop, communicate, and maintain a detailed project plan, work breakdown structure (WBS), scope definition and schedule
Develop project activity list and identify resource requirements
Be responsible for ensuring that engineering development efforts are completed per cost and schedule and meet the defined requirements and commitments. Demonstrated and proven track record of being able to meet or exceed project commitments.
Develop and monitor project execution costs and report out on the financial status of the execution
Define and manage mitigation strategies for technical issues and risks
Maintain, communicate, and update the status of action items for a given development effort, and ensure that action items are closed out appropriately
Prepare status reports and report project status to stake holders and upper management, as necessary
Work with the program manager and engineering teams to ensure adherence to the tollgate process
Be able to move seamlessly from managing an Agile development to a Toll Gate development
Provide ongoing guidance to engineering project teams to assure proper application and compliance of project management tools and processes
Prepare schedule and budget estimations and technical proposals for new project bids
Be able to mentor and/or train LPB Engineering Project Managers on how to prepare schedule and budget estimates.
Be able to manage multiple programs or an entire product line from inception to FMI.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a Technical field
Minimum of 7 years of experience in software development, in the Computer or Electronics industry with at least 2 of the five years in a lead capacity.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Project Management (Including; planning, analysis, and cost control)
Willingness and ability to travel internationally and domestically up to 25% of the time

Familiar with Electronics / Software Development lifecycles and processes
Ability to plan / schedule projects (Multiple, simultaneous, and varying complexity) to build, deploy, and test control systems for Locomotive and Railway Automation applications
Ability to prioritize and respond dynamically to a changing environment
Good written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work
Railroad industry experience
Proficient in Microsoft Project planning software
Strong understanding of project accounting and finance
Understanding of estimation and budgeting processes
Experience with Locomotive systems and interfaces
Experience in managing integration projects with sub-contractors
Proven track record of the ability to effectively apply Program Management concepts such as: Scope Control, Risk Management, Schedule Management, Change Management
Experience working with and managing international teams
Experience with the design, operation, and evaluation of control and/or communication systems
Experience in system engineering, specification generation, and manufacturing documentation
Experience as an IPT lead
Proven track record of working with schedules within an Earned Value System (Integrated Cost and Schedule).
Full understanding of not only the collection of basic metrics like SPI and CPI but the knowledge to mentor LPB Engineering Program Managers in the use of metrics
