Role Summary:
The HMI Engineer position requires an individual that possesses a solid understanding of visualization software, industrial communication, cyber security and control systems as well as exhibits strong project management and communication skills.

Essential Responsibilities:
In the role of HMI Engineer, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership for assigned HMI upgrade and controls retrofit projects under the overall management responsibility of the project manager
  • Be accountable for on-time schedule performance, project milestones, customer deliverables, and compliance with regulations and standards
  • Design and implement Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens for turbine control retrofit using a variety of HMI software packages
  • Provide technical support to software engineers in meeting customer needs on HMI applications
  • Design, implement and support communication networks for control system applications
  • Support proposal activities for HMI project opportunities
  • Provide technical support of HMI and control system during commissioning to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Perform hardware selection of system control components for HMI solutions
  • Modify legacy control system software for turbine control
  • Implement cyber security requirements

    Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in power generation and/or process control design, HMI and industrial networking

    Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% of time, as required

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Green Belt Certified (GE Employees only)
  • Prior experience in Enhanced CDM, DLN Upgrades, STARSS, Compressor S17 Protection, Control Curve upgrades and other modkits for Gas only/Dual – Fuel frame 6FA, 7FA, 7E, 9E, 9FA Gas Turbines on Mark V/VI/Vie controller platforms
  • Expertise in legacy HMI systems (Windows NT/XP) and Mark V/Mark VI Controllers
  • Prior experience in performing software modifications for Mark V/Mark VI/Mark VIe Controllers for GT applications
  • Recent experience working on complex Cisco network/HMI upgrades for ST/GT/BOP controllers with Modbus/GSM/OPC communication with DCS
  • Experience implementing cyber security systems
  • Strong background in HMI application software including Proficy iFix, Cimplicity, Historian based products
  • Field installation experience for UCVH Upgrades, system integration/testing, network upgrades
  • Cisco Shell, MS Office (including visio), VBA (limited), RedHat Linux (Basic OS), Windows NT/XP/7 (Basic OS), VMWare applications for virtualization, GE ControlST, GE eTCSS, Cimplicity, Proficy Machine Edition (Basic), National Instrument’s Labview, MATLAB, MPLAB C (Microcontroller compilers), Good software design practice for Mark V/VI/Vie controllers
  • CompTIA Network+ certified
  • Familiarity with Mark V / VI / VIe control system programming and system design
  • Track record of long lead control system projects
  • Strong computer skills in setting up Windows based applications including Windows XP, Windows 2000, Win7 , Server 2012, Win 10
  • Strong troubleshooting skills including hardware, software and communication networking.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Motivated, self-starter, results oriented
  • Proven team player with solid cooperation, flexibility and mentoring traits
  • Proficient MS Office computer skills
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in technical field
  • Combined Cycle Power Plant design experience
  • Domestic / international controls design experience
  • Understanding of turbine control applications
  • Field engineering experience
  • Knowledge or understanding of communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC, TCP / IP
  • Prior experience in hardware configuration and testing for both Mark VI & Vie systems
  • Masters in Engineering from an accredited college or university
