Role Summary: This role is part of our New Product Introduction (NPI) design team and the successful candidate will participate in engineering and designing mechanical and packaged systems for interface to existing steam, hydro, and gas turbine equipment and existing generator equipment as part of overall controls conversions, modifications, and upgrades. You will focus on developing and sustaining standardized products and providing appropriate technical support to global project engineers.
Essential Responsibilities: In the role of Mechanical & Packaged Systems Platform Engineer, you will:
Apply knowledge of manufacturing practices and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to produce high-quality and cost-effective product designs using solid modeling computer aided design (CAD) software
Be responsible for creation and maintenance of material masters and bills of material in the business information system (SAP)
Provide customer support related to products
Provide sales support for generation of customer proposals
Develop product test specification procedures, product technical manuals, and training courses
Develop instructions for product installation and commissioning for field services
Ensure compliance with internal and industry technical regulations, standards, and other regulatory requirements
Have frequent interaction with customers and suppliers required
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university
Ability and willingness to travel, domestic and international up to 20% of the time, as required
Edison Engineering Development Program (EEDP) graduate
Master of Science Degree in Engineering or entered into graduate degree program from an accredited college or university
Engineering experience in steam, hydro, or gas turbine auxiliary equipment and applications
Ability to apply mechanical engineering principles to analyze, design and troubleshoot mechanical systems associated with control system retrofits for steam, gas and hydro turbines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Results-oriented and able to complete tasks on schedule
Ability to proactively identify and resolve technical issues
Ability to make practical on-site evaluations
Ability to review contract documentation and customer specifications, and have experience creating equipment specifications and detailed design documentation for the development of appropriate mechanical solutions
Self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision
Familiarity with use of Finite Element Analysis using ANSYS and/or SDRC I-Deas
Field engineering experience with turbine mechanical retrofits a strong plus
Experience with proposal generation and market level pricing for turbine retrofit opportunities
Experience developing steam, gas, or hydro turbine control system software
Knowledge of machining practices, GD&T , design for manufacturability and lean manufacturing
Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor, Unigraphics, Solid Works or similar solid modeling design software
Knowledge of hydraulic systems design
Green Belt / Black Belt certified (GE employees only)
Proficiency in the following additional software applications / platforms:
Visual Basic, Excel Macros
Platforms including Microsoft Windows and UNIX
