Role Summary: This opportunity is available for a person interested in leading the creation of systems architectures for products in GE Healthcare’s Anesthesia and Respiratory Care (ARC) business. The Principal Engineer – Systems Architecture and Design will be responsible for developing systems architectures for Anesthesia Systems and Critical Care Ventilators including developing architecture roadmaps to accelerate our delivery of new features and capabilities.
Essential Responsibilities: Duties include (but are not limited to): 1. This key role will also act as a global expert in systems design, mentoring our engineering design leaders in systems engineering practices to define user requirements, translate into product requirements, assign function ownership to subsystems that are optimized for platforming, and leverage modeling and integration strategies to deliver high quality products on-time. 2. Driving elements of the multi-generational product plan as well as product specific development plans 3. Multi-generation segment technology planning and rationalization experience with an excellent understanding of product system architecture(s), platforms and core technologies 4. Influencing strategic development of global product roadmaps with a focus on technical differentiation that addresses key customer needs 5. Influencing segment leadership and segment direction through action-oriented recommendations based upon market, competition, and technology 6. Serving as a technical readiness focal point for all pertinent personnel and/or customers 7. Coaching and mentoring in order to develop the engineering community in process, career growth and technical excellence 8. Identify opportunities for quality and productivity improvements and drive continuous process improvements to address those opportunities 9. Broad influence over large multi-disciplinary and/or cross-functional teams 10. Owns the business impact for strategic platforms, technologies or systems 11. Provides mentoring and coaching to develop technical talent 12. Provides expert guidance and support to the development organization in various technical/functional aspects of research, development and engineering 13. Solves complex and ambiguous problems 14. Leverage their technical/clinical depth to work on business initiatives aimed at driving technology harmony, innovation, process convergence and/or quality excellence for a particular product line 15. Drives design evolution across multi-generation product releases 16. Drives creation and adoption for engineering standards 17. Creates and supports the stewardship of intellectual property
Qualifications/Requirements: 1. Bachelors Degree within appropriate Engineering/Science discipline 2. 12 years progressive experience as an engineer or scientist within the appropriate field of study 3. Demonstrated experience driving technology and segment planning processes with a focus on differentiation and financial return 4. Demonstrated ability to influence and drive segment direction utilizing internal and external resources on segment initiatives 5. Demonstrated strategic planning with experience in driving technical changes across a segment of products
Quality Specific Goals: 1. Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.
2. Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines.

Desired Characteristics: 1. Master’s degree in Engineering 2. Experience in design engineering for Anesthesia Systems, Critical Care Ventilators, or other life support devices 3. Excellent organizational skills 4. Demonstrated experience on global product releases throughout the entire NPI cycle 5. Strong written and oral communication skills 6. Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi-task 7. Demonstrated problem solving ability and results orientation 8. Demonstrated LEAN skills
