Role Summary:
A Mechanical Engineer works with cross-functional teams to design, develop, manufacture and service complex instrumentation and disposables for life science application. Activities include detailed mechanical, structural, thermodynamic design of sub-systems and components.

Essential Responsibilities:
Duties include (but are not limited to):
1. Develop robust designs for new, special, or existing products that can be produced economically and according to established project timelines
2. Leverages knowledge in advanced aspects of technical/functional areas and applies technical theory and practical experience with input from relevant functional areas to solve complex problems
3. Works independently and possesses a level of functional expertise necessary to influence and execute technical and project delivery execution
4. Works with patient/customers and/or program leadership to ensure that the project deliverables are consistent with the goals of larger programs or initiatives
5. Owns the technologies that support competitive technical differentiation
6. Engaging in all phases of new product development, including concept, architecture, documentation, design, prototype, test, supplier interfaces, manufacturing introduction and service support
7. Collaborate with Product Management to develop product specifications and requirements to drive the product development process.
8. Work from product specifications and requirements to develop component and assembly geometry, specify materials, and establish acceptable performance standards. Performs complex calculations, analyses, and testing to verify assumptions.
9. Collaborate with Quality and Product Management to establish appropriate critical to quality (CTQ) characteristics.
10. Prepare using 2D and 3D CAD software mechanical drawings, thermodynamic analysis, detailed drawings and assembly models complete with calculated dimensions and tolerances.
11. Revise and alter detailed and layout drawings to conform to engineering changes.
12. Prepare engineering change requests, engineering change notices, bills of material, engineering specifications, and customer submittals.
13. Direct the construction and testing of prototype and pilot products, and conduct analysis of the test results.
14. Attend in-house quality audits to provide engineering and technical support, when requested.
15. Interface directly with manufacturing employees to clarify questions on drawings and designs. Assist Manufacturing in troubleshooting production issues on standard and special products.

1. BS in Mechanical Engineering with 3-5 years relevant work experience
2. Experience and knowledge in engineering design, analysis, and verification of mechanical structures, fluid flow, thermal analysis, or electro/opto-mechanical assemblies.
3. Understanding and wide application of advanced principles, theories, concepts and techniques in structural and/or dynamics analysis resulting in contributions to the development of new theories and/or methods.
4. Experience with reliability tools
5. Demonstrated experience in developing/integration product requirements (user, system, usability), specifications.
6. Demonstrated experience in developing design verification/validation plan, test procedure and reports.
7. Full-life cycle product development experience
8. Familiarity with requirements traceability management tools (DOORS, Analyst Studio, GMARC, Caliber-RM, etc.)

1. Comply with the GEHC Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position.
2. Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines.
3. Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required

1. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 8 years relevant work experience
2. Demonstrated technical leadership capability in system integration activities
3. Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi-task
4. Excellent teamwork, coordination and communication skills
5. Ability to meet aggressive reliability, performance, cost, serviceability, and delivery targets
6. Effective oral and written communication skills
7. Global project experience
8. DFSS or Green Belt/Black Belt Certification
