Role Summary: You will be an integral member of the Global Patent Operation (GPO), the team entrusted with the mission of protecting GE’s considerable investment in technology that changes lives and the world. You will be empowered to partner with GE businesses to provide services that help perfect patent protection. Ultimately you will be a key participant in the implementation of the strategies through the preparation and prosecution of high quality patent applications that provide IP protection.
Essential Responsibilities: Through the experience as an intern in the Global Patent Operation, the intern will have opportunities to develop the fundamental skills and knowledge of global patent practice, specific intern responsibilities comprise the following:
Reviewing electronic correspondence received from global patent offices, preferred providers of legal services, GE business partners, GPO colleagues, etc. and assessing the intern actions required based on the content of the correspondence
Entering patent related actions, and information relating to pending applications or issued patents in GE's patent information database (PAGE)
Maintaining GE’s paperless work environment by accurately managing information loaded into GE’s digital document repository referred to as IP Libraries
Corresponding with inventors to obtain signatures for Combined Declaration and Assignment Forms
Researching and gathering information to secure a complete patent filing package
Further potential development would be to work with the Global Patent Operation team in Europe on related formalities tasks such as:
Postal tasks which include reporting stages of prosecution to the businesses then adding documents to Box.
Helping to complete European specific validations in EP countries once EP application is granted
Ongoing studies for at least 6 months (BA/MA)
Availability to work min. 30 hours per week
Proficient oral and written English
Good user level MS Office skills (Excel pivots, vlookup/MS Outlook)
Ability to learn and adapt
Team player, communicates well
