Role Summary:
The Senior Compliance Counsel will assist in global program design and implementation with a particular focus on GEHC’s Life Sciences business. They will provide advice and support on conducting business activities in compliance with relevant laws and regulations (e.g., Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, UK Bribery Act, Anti-kickback Statute, government pharma pricing and price reporting regulations), Spirit & Letter and GE-specific policies

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain compliance infrastructure in accordance with applicable regulations and guidance with a particular focus on programs for manufacturers of pharmaceutical products. Includes development and support for all common elements, such as policy/SOP writing, training development and delivery, communications development, strategy and delivery, monitoring and auditing, investigations, root cause analysis and corrective and preventative action planning/execution.
  • Project Management: Lead and/or provide strategic input on global projects developing programs to support elements of an effective compliance program.
  • Commercial Compliance: Consult on compliance issues arising in commercial deal structures, supporting commercial legal colleagues.
  • M&A Compliance: Develop, execute, and evaluate risk-based compliance due diligence strategy for new acquisitions. Develop plans for compliance-focused integration in acquisition and other business combinations.
  • Metrics: Develop core compliance metrics consistent with GE and GEHC requirements.
  • Execution: Proactively take appropriate and timely action to protect business interests to achieve robust approaches and execution on compliance issues
  • Investigations: Conduct investigations and manage others conducting investigations. Train investigators. Write investigation reports. Develop corrective action strategies, and implement or manage implementation.
  • Collaboration: Interface with relevant Centers of Excellence and other key control support functions, e.g., Ombuds, Controllership, to deliver compliance support efficiently to business.
  • Manage outside counsel
  • Advise the business on regulatory, privacy, antitrust and advertising/promotional matters


Qualifications/Requirements:
  1. JD (or equivalent) degree
  2. Must have US Bar or be a qualified lawyer in specific country of practice
  3. Minimum 6 years of business law experience at a large law firm or corporate legal department, including but not limited to drafting, negotiating and closing complex business transactions (i.e. purchase, sale and distribution agreements).
  4. Minimum 7 years experience in professional or corporate environment within the pharmaceutical / life sciences / healthcare industry
  5. Extensive knowledge and experience in compliance areas
  6. Strong project management and prioritization skills, ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities
  7. Strong problem resolution and facilitation skills
  8. Ability to work in complex environments with multiple clients and short timelines
  9. Strong follow-up and attention to detail to ensure issues are investigated promptly and thoroughly
  10. Strong demonstrated PC skills using Microsoft Offices applications (i.e.: Word, Excel, PowerPoint)


Desired Characteristics:
  1. Demonstrated experience providing legal advice in a highly regulated environment
  2. Familiarity with on-line contracting and e-commerce issues
  3. Ability to function as an integral member of the GEHC Global Law & Policy function
  4. Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels of the organization (including our field sales force, senior leadership and our customers’ senior leadership teams)
  5. Ability to work well independently and in a team setting
  6. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate business issues in an easy to understand manner
  7. Global mindset, able to deal with people from all different backgrounds and cultures.
