Role Summary: As a member of the Imaging Technology Compute CoE you will engineer computers and Linux operating systems for the various GEHC products. The Imaging platform Compute COE develops operating systems that are deployed on medical devices in hospitals and research institutions globally. You will work cross-functionally to ensure that our system is configurable, secure, performant and scalable.
Essential Responsibilities: 1. Troubleshooting and solving complex technical problems within the Linux OS, drivers, file systems, communication and associated peripheral devices. 2. Working in an engineering team to develop, test, release and maintain a Linux OS distribution based off open source software. 3. Learn and maintain a high level of expertise on applicable compute technologies such as, Linux OS, BIOS, memory management, file systems, window managers, HW drivers and display adaptors. 4. Leverage Agile and Lean software development methodologies to drive reliability upstream into the product development life cycle. 5. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with GEHC product teams for integrating and supporting the Linux OS in our medical products. 6. Work closely with product teams in requirements gathering and software design 7. Work with open source software, upstream FOSS communities, projects, developers and mailing lists.
Qualifications/Requirements: 1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related computer field 2. Minimum 5 years of experience in software development in a Linux environment

Desired Characteristics: 1. Masters Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related computer field 2. Experience in the complete software development cycle 3. Experience with managing Linux and its internals, device drivers and networking protocols 4. Exposure to Linux troubleshooting 5. Awareness of OS performance tuning 6. Strong performance history in software development projects, working with global teams 7. Experience in Linux OS and software installation procedures and technology with the ability to develop Unix/Linux scripting and commands 8. Technical acumen to perform design reviews, code reviews and code coverage analysis 9. Working knowledge of Clearquest or equivalent defect management tool 10. Working knowledge of subversion, git, or other version control system 11. Exposure to system admin tasks and responsibilities 12. Awareness of multiple compute architectures 13. Experience with Scrum or other Agile development methods 14. Experience working in an FDA regulated environment 15. Experience in computer subsystem testing, analysis, BIOS, benchmarking and performance characterization at both the low level and applications level 16. Experience in X-servers and window management system software 17. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies to address complex business needs 18. Working knowledge of 802.11 wireless and its related drivers on Linux 19. Experience in PC evaluation 20. Experience with diverse software technologies 21. Self-starter with strong initiative
