Role Summary:
You will be responsible for designing and related activities for a small module or a large component and designing a feature, set of features, or whole feature area. She/he will work independently and contribute to the immediate team and collaborate with other teams across business. She/he will Lead design discussion in a limited manner.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Work with Product Line Leaders (PLLs) to understand product requirements & vision
  • Capture system level requirements through collaboration with Sr. Architects, Data Scientists, Businesses & Product Managers
  • Support evaluation and determination of appropriate Product and System safety characteristics
  • Identify the scope of the work, provide & support initial estimates and justify the estimate with facts
  • Demonstrate the understanding of Agile software development lifecycle and able to distinguish the core inputs and outputs in each cycle.
  • Engage in technical discussions; participate in technical design discussions and reviews and ensure consideration of ISO, FDA and other regulations and standards
  • Work closely with your peers and keep engaging in a fast pace technical design and development team
  • Execute in a fast pace delivery mode and focus in delivering tasks to meet the product release goal
  • Review and approve records related to unit testing, code review and verification and validation testing as required
  • Demonstrate the ability to make informed technology choices or decisions after due diligence and impact assessment
  • Understand whole product, its modules and the interrelationship between them while being an expert in the assigned component or module
  • Help in designing interfaces and information exchange between modules
  • Possess advanced domain knowledge and show great customer focus. Expert in processes / methodologies and Skilled in build, release & deployment processes
  • Ensure Risk Management activities are conducted and completed in a timely manner
  • Responsible for providing technical process leadership in-support of defining, developing, and evolving software in a fast paced and agile development environment using the latest software development technologies and infrastructure
  • Support defect management activities
  • Provide or support periodic report-out of engineering quality metrics as required
  • Responsible for ensuring a complete and cohesive design history file
  • Lead preparation for and response to regulatory inquiry (audits), including CAPA

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) or equivalent related work experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in Product Design & Development OR Master’s degree with 6 years of experience in Product Design & Development OR PhD with 3 years of experience in Product Design & Development
  • Four years’ experience in an engineering or product development environment

  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Chicago, IL and Barrington, IL

    Desired Characteristics:

    Desired Characteristics:

  • Previous experience in an Agile development environment
  • Demonstrated project leadership experience. (i.e. Project Manager, SCRUM Master, Team Lead, etc)
  • Experience with Software Medical Device design and development
  • Experience preparing for and responding to regulatory audit inquiry’s
  • Project management experience
  • Certification in Six Sigma (DFSS or DMAIC) or another quality certification
  • Demonstrated experience in a ISO, or FDA regulated work environment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a matrixed work environment

    Technical Expertise:

  • Knowledge of Object Oriented Analysis and Design, Software Design Patterns and Java coding principles
  • Knowledge of or hands-on experience with web development using HTML5, Java Script, jQuery, CSS. Also, experience in implementing Java OSGi modules and using an OSGi container.
  • Experience with Play framework, Angular is a big plus
  • Experience with SQL queries and scripting

  • Experience in building scalable and highly available distributed systems
  • Expert in breaking down problems and estimate time for development tasks
