This Start-up will have access to unparalleled resources through GE’s Global Research Center, GE Digital, GE Aviation Systems (GEAS) and GE’s IoT platform, Predix, NBC team leverages GE’s operational excellence, brand and scale to create options for breakout growth. Role Summary:
GE Ventures is creating a “Newco”, GEBeyond. In connection with building out the management team of Newco, the NBC team seeks to hire an entrepreneur in residence (“EIR”) reporting to a senior staff member within NBC.

Essential Responsibilities:
The EIR will have broad responsibility for (a) providing a combination of business and technical vision to foster the development of the business plan of Newco, (b) meeting with prospective customers in a variety of markets, (c) influencing the direction of the product development efforts, and (d) transitioning Newco through the ideation and prototyping process to product commercialization. Leadership in this context will come from being able to envision new business opportunities in a variety of industrial business sectors. The EIR will be tasked with identifying, evaluating and translating technological capabilities into strategic decisions related to Newco.

In this role, you will:

  • Help create new businesses
  • Work with the engineering leadership team on the development of a new market-based applications, including designing the Newco product strategy and supporting the overall execution of that strategy
  • Work across multiple business sectors and with regulators, focusing on the features that support the creation of new technologies to provide Newco with a competitive advantage in the relevant sector
  • Build upon and apply preexisting expertise in one or more business sectors that are strategically important to Newco

    Assess competitive landscape
  • Actively monitor new businesses, business models and technologies and assess their applicability to Newco; separate marketing rhetoric from technical facts when assessing new technologies
  • Introduce new and potentially disruptive technologies; envision how such disruptive technologies can change mainstream, traditional transportation businesses
  • Work closely with GE’s Global Research Center, GE Digital and the various GE business units as applicable to recognize important new technologies and envision potential product and service innovations

    Internal and External Relations
  • Develop strong relationships with business executives, engineers and scientists in various GE research labs; earn the trust and respect that will ensure a culture of shared expertise and partnership through the development of Newco
  • Act as an ambassador for Newco in internal and external interactions; participate in relevant industry meetings/conferences; develop strong relationships with industry, academic, Government and professional organizations
  • Foster a culture of cooperation, transparency, integrity and trust


Qualifications/Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
  • 15+ years in the aerospace industry
  • 10+ years of experience in Program Management
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job.
  • Must be willing to travel


Desired Characteristics:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • Experience leading large, matrixed teams in aviation, preferably in research and development
  • Ability to combine the entrepreneurial focus demanded in small company environments with the ability to navigate and get things done in a large, matrixed organization
  • Dedicated to understanding the latest business and technology trends, applications, cost tradeoffs, and potential industry disruptions
  • Ability to think strategically and to demonstrate through examples how innovations have created new or enhanced products or services
  • Broad knowledge of the potential value in emerging technologies, and a keen understanding of how these technologies can affect current or potential businesses and products
  • Experience navigating large organizations and drawing upon broad, dispersed resources
  • Extremely hands-on; able to get things accomplished without directly managing a team; effective at working with consultants and other “borrowed” resources
  • Ability to earn the trust and confidence of multiple constituencies
  • Experience making presentations to boards, investors, internal teams and external audience“Hands-on,” collaborative and resourceful leader who will be comfortable navigating a large organization with broadly dispersed resources
  • Straightforward, open-minded, non-hierarchical
  • Able to build rapport at all levels within Newco and GE and externally; able to work successfully in a large, highly-matrixed organization

  • Capable of analyzing, interpreting, drawing conclusions and implementing solutions on a variety of complex issues

  • Quick-minded; deep intellectual horsepower; professional and engaging demeanor; strong verbal and written skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interface and influence at all levels in the organization

  • Experience in working with local and remote teams across time zones
  • Excellent organization skills; capacity to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to hit tight deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Experience working and succeeding in a matrix environment
