Role Summary:
The GE Additive Senior Staff Engineer demonstrates accountability for functional, business & broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate & develop new processes that meet business as well as additive technologies across GE businesses and organizations. Manage issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy. Support the launch & development of the Additive business / technologies.

Essential Responsibilities:
In addition you will :

  • Provide leadership, motivation, and technical direction for assigned program tasks and personnel
  • Execute and provide guidance for the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams
  • Mentor others in the organization
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Present or review technical and program work as needed
  • Provide support council and recommendations to section management
  • Maintain awareness of efforts within group to assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer / program needs
  • Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long range engineering needs
  • Provide technical consultation on product problems throughout the business including supplier and field support
  • Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact
  • Develop additive materials roadmaps, design of materials customized for additive processing
  • Development of rapid characterization techniques, process parameter – material property assessments and optimization, qualification of material parameters for array of modalities, material selection and application engineering.
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in own technical specialty to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs
  • Support other GE businesses, internal and external customers, and suppliers as required
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company
  • Provide technical guidance, direction and training to others

    Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in an engineering capacity

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Domain expertise in one or more areas of alloy design, material application engineering, additive modality process parameter development, additive material mechanical property analysis, development of additive modalities such as cold spray, ceramic additive, binder jet and other emerging technologies
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills
  • Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in at least one technical specialty, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within this field
