Role Summary:
As a Staff Technical Writer, you will be responsible for leading information development projects with team members. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and produce high-quality content and provide input to information development strategy on a high level.

Essential Responsibilities:
In this role, you will develop and deliver high-quality content for the Oil & Gas Digital Applications team using the following professional characteristics:
• Outstanding writing skills, namely a command of grammar, syntax, diction, and the conventions and best practices of writing a variety of technical documents
• Strong collaboration skills: ability to work with a variety of other writers and cross-functional peers easily, emerging as a leader on the team
• Excellent knowledge of core technical communication concepts, such as topic-based authoring, minimalism, task-oriented design, single-sourcing
• Understanding of core information development processes (with collaborative ability to enable both adaption and adoption): content planning, content creation, content review, translation/localization best practices
• Strong skills in the process of breaking down software processes into tasks necessary to the targeted user and effectively explaining those tasks to the user
• Strong ability to collaborate with subject matter experts to research a software product, determine functionality and design features, then communicate those effectively to the user

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree (OR high school diploma with at least 10 years’ experience in a technical writing role)
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in technical writing with proven ability to manage technical writing projects from start to finish independently or Master’s degree with 6 years of experience with technical writing or PHD with 3 years of experience with technical writing
• Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation
• Must be willing to travel
• Must be willing to work out of an office located in Mumbai, India

Desired Characteristics:
Technical Expertise:

• Clear skills in editing (QA for documentation) – ability to recognize errors and opportunities for improvement in a variety of information deliverables
• Strong skills with the authoring tools used by the GE Digital Information Development team: oXygen Author (DITA methodology), Astoria CMS
• Ability to understand and use basic information architecture principles to create a wide variety of information deliverables
• Fundamental understanding of Lean/Agile/XP software development processes, their application to GE projects, and how to follow processes for information development
• Basic understanding of the major aspects of software design, development, and QA and ability to leverage this understanding to inform execution for information development projects
• Experience writing product documentation in any and all of the following domains is highly preferred: Oil & Gas industry, inspection technologies, and engineering/physics/analytics-based software
• Experience creating and editing video productions, performing live interviews, and podcasting is a plus

Business Acumen:
• Ability to understand and research user profiles and to create content targeted appropriately to meet user goals
• Strong project management skills: ability to estimate scope and time, create and work to deadlines, collaborate to create a schedule
• Basic domain and product knowledge, including appropriate terminology, with an awareness of GE Oil & Gas and GE Oil & Gas Digital product line(s) and offerings, competitive landscapes and associated industries
• Awareness of how GE Oil & Gas Digital drives value to its customers and how the information development function fits into GE Oil & Gas Digital’s overall business strategy

Leadership:
• Clarity of thinking to work through limited information and vague problem definitions
• Proactive identification and removal of project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team
• Willingness and ability to share knowledge, power, and credit, establishing trust, credibility, and goodwill
