Role Summary:
The Senior Composite Engineer will provide expertise in the design, analysis, material selection, materials processing, evaluation and qualification of unbonded flexible pipe structures aligning with the strategic objectives for the introduction of composite materials. The SCE will be able to demonstrate creativity and engineering judgment in resolving the technology challenges associated with the introduction and commercialization of a new product.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provision of Engineering expertise in the design, analysis, material selection, materials processing, evaluation and qualification of composite unbonded flexible pipe structures to meet GE Oil & Gas and Industry standards.
  • Generate and release technical information for incorporation into the design tools and guidelines.
  • Develop product specifications for Design and Manufacture of products.
  • Produce functional and commercial specifications on new manufacturing processes for introduction of new products.
  • Interface with pipe systems/business development for customer requirements i.e. bid support, design clarifications, qualification envelope.
  • Identify and support patent assessments and filing opportunities including submission of new inventions.
  • To be a nominated focal point for a specific product area.
  • Carry out investigation, analysis and reporting of product failure in support of both internal/external customers.
  • Provide product instruction/awareness/training/seminars to both internal and external customers.
  • Provide a product consultancy service, as required, for external customers.
  • Liaise and co-ordinate with 3rd party external consultants in the provision of technical services.
  • Lead & coordinate programs with external test houses when required by the programs (including test rig development).
  • Interface through testing Services with External Test Houses when required but also an awareness of ongoing programs to capture key knowledge.
  • Develop and implement bespoke testing in the support of projects.
  • Ensure the implementation of quality and safety plans in accordance with Company, Client and statutory requirements.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Materials Technology/Special Processes Leader.

  • A university degree in an Engineering related subject; Master's degree or equivalent or equivalent knowledge and experience; some years of experience at a Lead Engineer level functioning with an increased level of specialization, practice and responsibility plus development of others and demonstrating leadership responsibilities.
  • Engineer/scientist working towards chartered status with a recognized institution.

  • Proven attention to detail, with excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Good organization skills with the ability to directly inform and instruct Engineers, Technicians and other employees of specific engineering and HSEQ requirements.
  • Ability to work within a team environment with a team of high level engineers.
  • Have credibility and be well networked for influence … able to open doors.
  • Proficiency in software applications MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter capable of remaining flexible to changing work priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, oral and written).
  • Effective at managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines, with the ability to bring assignments to a successful completion.
