GE announced they signed a definitive agreement to sell the Water & Process Technologies business to SUEZ, a services and solutions company with global operations primarily in water and waste management. The deal will be subject to customary closing conditions such as regulatory review and appropriate consultation and we expect this to be complete by mid-2017. Water & Process Technologies will operate business as usual through this process and will continue to meet its commitments to its valued customers and employees. This includes hiring strong talent to help the business grow and be successful. GE is targeting to complete the sale of the business by mid-2017.

Role Summary:
In this role the Closing & Reporting Process Controller will provide functional leadership to the GE W&PT closing & reporting process globally. You will own the wing to wing closing and reporting process, including leading the operational optimization of closing process and signoff process automation to reduce cycle time and eliminate late process errors driven by MJEs.

Essential Responsibilities:
In addition, you will You will focus on creating and maintaining the general accounting process followed for the enterprise as well as setting and driving the key process indicator to lean the closing process.

As the Closing & Reporting Process Controller, you will:

  • Partner with the IT team to recommend changes to the ERP and processes to implement any improvements identified in lean
  • Focus on creating and maintaining the as is and to be closing & reporting process maps, digitizing key process indicators via Tableau and monitoring the inputs for accuracy and standardization
  • Be a process-minded expert who can quickly link operational triggers to accounting processes, identify and standardize global inconsistencies, and drive process change effectively in an organized manner across the organization
  • General accounting financial leader responsible for the integrity of the financial statement including balance sheet, income statement and cashflow across all financial platforms including SAP (ERP), Tableau (Data warehouse) and Hyperion (consolidation). Integrity responsibility includes validation, communication and working across the functional team to fix any reporting error timely without impacting closing or the reporting cycle
  • Own performing and coordinating actions to reconcile across key system platforms, including SAP, Tableau, Hyperion (Uniform) during the closing and on ad-hoc basis
  • Own and maintain SAP journal entry workflow and ensure adherence to manual journal entry policy across business enterprise, including approver of late manual journal entry workflows
  • Own wing-to-wing closing & reporting process and approve manual entries related to general accounting, goodwill, foreign currency translation and remeasurement, intercompany and consolidation
  • Own, analyze and validate foreign currency translation and remeasurement systemic process effectiveness and key controls including quarterly representation to controllership on program effectiveness and accuracy
  • Recommend and implement system design changes and/or tools to foreign currency programs
  • Produce and recommend closing & reporting process health and key performance indicator (KPI) metrics and establish regular rhythms with extended finance team to communicate and improve results, including account reconsolidation status, manual journal entry reduction, edit check failures, and closing cycle times.
  • Own closing activities list, calendar, and data flows by understanding key dependencies related to closing cycle
  • Communicate closing calendar, monitor status throughout closing cycle and validate timely completion of closing activities
  • Define and manage closing and reporting master data maintenance, such as chart of accounts, company codes, process cycle ownership, journal entry approvers, etc.
  • Be responsible for creating, maintaining and implementing DOA related to access controls to critical transactions within the ERP
  • Monitor and support timely and accurate statutory reporting compliance including legal entity profitability
  • Have extensive interaction with financial planning & analysis (FP&A) and technical controllership teams
  • Be the single business point of contact with Power, Global Operations, Consolidation as it relates to closing, reporting and consolidation activities


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 10 years of controllership / accounting experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a controllership / accounting leadership role
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Certified Public Accountant


Desired Characteristics:
  • PC Proficiency (MS Office), SAP Experience with exposure to following SAP ERP Modules: Financial Accounting & Controlling (FICO), Project Systems (PS), Material Management (MM)
  • Tableau experience or relevant experience with other data warehousing tools
  • Hyperion experience
  • Highly analytical with well-developed problem-solving skills
  • Hands on mentality
  • Team player with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Proven ability to lead and execute
