Role Summary:
The Principal Data Scientist will guide, lead, and work in teams as technical domain expert addressing statistical, machine learning and data understanding problems in a commercial technology and consultancy development environment. In this role, you will contribute to the development and deployment of modern machine learning, operational research, semantic analysis, and statistical methods for finding structure in large data sets.

Essential Responsibilities:
As a Principal Data Scientist, you will guide, lead, or otherwise contribute to data science or cross-disciplinary team on commercially-facing development projects, typically involving large, complex data sets. These teams typically include statisticians, computer scientists, software developers, engineers, product managers, and end users, working in concert with partners in GE business units. Potential application areas include remote monitoring and diagnostics across infrastructure and industrial sectors, financial portfolio risk assessment, and operations optimization.

We are looking for an expert Data Scientist to join our world-class team. We are seeking individuals with strong backgrounds in statistics, machine learning and computer science who have demonstrated success in building data-driven applications. On our team, you will be in charge of building ML applications to solve targeted problems in industrial and healthcare use cases. You will be given the freedom to dive deeply into a variety of technologies and explore cutting-edge ML approaches. You will have the full power of our proprietary, patented machine learning technologies at your disposal as well as the support of our talented Data Science Team, which consists of several PhDs and ex-professors from top-tier universities.

You’ll work with some of the top minds in statistics and ML to build and deploy high-value applications on top of that data.

In this role you will:
  • Partner with GE Software Engagement Managers to shape Statements of Work for Data Science opportunities and GE Software Solutions
  • Participate in Data Science Workouts to shape Data Science opportunities and identify opportunities to use data science to create customer value
  • Guide junior Data Scientists to develop, verify, and validate analytics to address customer needs and opportunities.
  • Provide technical project and program oversight to ensure appropriate technical rigor is applied to Data Science engagements
  • Guide cross-functional teams to translate algorithms into commercially viable products and services.
  • Guide and otherwise contribute to technical teams in development, deployment, and application of applied analytics, predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics.
  • Partner with data engineers on data quality assessment, data cleansing and data analytics efforts
  • Generate reports, annotated code, and other projects artifacts to document, archive, and communicate your work and outcomes.
  • Communicate methods, findings, and hypotheses with stakeholders.


Qualifications/Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Master's or PhD degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science or related field and relevant working experience creating production level ML pipelines

Eligibility Requirements:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.
  • Pursuant to the Los Angeles/San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records
  • Must be willing to travel (10%)
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Francisco, CA


Desired Characteristics:
  • Demonstrated prowess in applied machine learning
  • Experience building, testing and deploying data-driven software applications
  • Proficiency in Python and a strong software development background
  • Hands-on experience analyzing real-world data
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate quantitative results to non-technical stakeholders
