Role Summary: The Software Technical Writer is responsible for defining, designing, and developing online Help, manuals, training materials, and other technical publications for various machinery monitoring systems (both hardware and software components) and working with cross-functional business teams within BHGE to deliver and support high quality products on time.
Essential Responsibilities: Design, develop, and deliver product documentation for engineering products including online Help, product manuals, training materials, instruction cards, and data sheets according to published procedures & style guides.
In the role of Software Technical Writer, you will:
Work in an Agile development environment
Develop re-usable, single source content
Design, develop and deliver product demonstration modules
Work as part of a global team, working with overseas counterparts
Ensure documentation tasks related to user stories are delivered as part of the definition of “Done” for every Agile iteration by working closely with the developers, testers, the product owner and the commercial leads
Work with the developers to ensure that all software UI messages are clear, grammatically correct, accurate, and written in Simplified English
Assess and communicate technical or other risks early and suggest mitigation options to the stakeholders
Assist in preparing documentation plans and estimates
Improve and develop technical writing standards and leverage best practices from other technical writing groups in GE - keep abreast of trends in the technical writing / user assistance industry
Facilitate translation for technical documentation
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Engineering or Science from an accredited college or university
Minimum 3 years of experience in Technical writing and/or e-Learning with a minimum of 2 years of exposure to software engineering applications in industries like condition monitoring and/or manufacturing of electronic hardware
Work out of an office located in Minden, NV
Master’s Degree in English, Engineering or Science from an accredited college or university
Minimum 1 year of exposure to Agile development environment
Green Belt certification (GE employees only)
Highly self-motivated, results driven individual with a proven track record in technical writing
Excellent command of the English language
Demonstrated knowledge of Help systems, electronic printing and publishing
Demonstrated skill in graphical presentations or instructional design
Familiarity or experience with authoring tools like MadCap Flare or Adobe RoboHelp
Basic skills with graphic tools, like Illustrator, Visio, and SnagIt.
Familiarity with basic XML concepts and single sourcing
Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
Demonstrated ability to work well with culturally diverse and global teams
Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision
