Role Summary: The Machinist III will be responsible for set up and operating manual machines (engine lathes, horizontal boring machines, mills, and drill presses) to fabricate and repair parts.
Essential Responsibilities: In the role of Machinist III you will:
Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material and work piece as guides for subsequent machining
Load work piece on machining equipment using proper rigging and lifting techniques
Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tolls, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jib borers, grinders and shapers
Calculate and set controls for machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut
Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls and control media as required
Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings
Participate in and is supportive of continuous improvement activities
Follow all environmental, health, and safety rules and practices

High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution
Minimum 5 years of hands on manual machines experience
Use / read calipers and micrometers
Work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required
Work in a constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities
Be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required
Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Be subjected to extreme heat for extended periods of time
Ability to identify tools / tool knowledge and demonstrate initiative
Mathematical aptitude (as required to understand tolerance and measurements)
Crane / material safe lifting / loading knowledge
Possesses basic hand tools required for machining role
Excellent customer service to co-workers, customers, and vendors
Embraces ambiguity and engages others in idea generation
Works collaboratively and respects all others
Keeps others informed of work progress, timetables, and issue
Proven good behavior (attendance, discipline)
Enjoys working with hands, mechanical abilities, dedication, great attitude
