Role Summary:
The Machinist III will be responsible for set up and operating manual machines (engine lathes, horizontal boring machines, mills, and drill presses) to fabricate and repair parts.

Essential Responsibilities:
In the role of Machinist III you will:

  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material and work piece as guides for subsequent machining
  • Load work piece on machining equipment using proper rigging and lifting techniques
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tolls, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jib borers, grinders and shapers
  • Calculate and set controls for machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls and control media as required
  • Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings
  • Participate in and is supportive of continuous improvement activities
  • Follow all environmental, health, and safety rules and practices
  • Perform other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions

    Qualifications/Requirements:
  • High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution
  • Minimum 5 years of hands on manual machines experience

    Eligibility Requirements:

  • Read blueprints
  • Use / read calipers and micrometers
  • Work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required
  • Work in a constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities
  • Be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required
  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Be subjected to extreme heat for extended periods of time

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Ability to identify tools / tool knowledge and demonstrate initiative
  • Mathematical aptitude (as required to understand tolerance and measurements)
  • Crane / material safe lifting / loading knowledge
  • Possesses basic hand tools required for machining role
  • Excellent customer service to co-workers, customers, and vendors
  • Embraces ambiguity and engages others in idea generation
  • Works collaboratively and respects all others
  • Keeps others informed of work progress, timetables, and issue
  • Proven good behavior (attendance, discipline)
  • Enjoys working with hands, mechanical abilities, dedication, great attitude
  • Knowledge of cutting tools, processes, hand tools and equipment
