Role Summary:
Due to growth and portfolio expansion targets, we are looking for a highly motivated and accomplished FastWorks consultant to join the Design Research & Validation team within GE Oil & Gas Digital Product Management full time. As the team’s FastWorks advisor, you will be responsible for reviewing and coaching all new product development projects, and you will report to the Senior Director of Design Research & Validation.

Essential Responsibilities:
You will be a key player on the team of researchers driving a culture of “Design Thinking and Doing”, and it is imperative that you create and build strong working relationships with product division colleagues in Product Management, Engineering, and Program Management. As you will be charged with ensuring the success of both new product introductions and significant product investments, you will cover the spectrum from educating colleagues on methodology to reviewing the soundness of their product investment proposals to leading validation workshops to creating and institutionalizing progress tracking methods with Program Management counterparts.

In this role, you will:

  • Work with Product Management and Design Research colleagues to apply the FastWorks (Lean Startup) methodology and thereby ensure high rates of New Product Introduction and Significant Product Investment success.
  • Engage in the Research phase of the product development lifecycle with Product Strategy, Product Management, and Engineering counterparts to ensure a keen understanding of and to test assumptions that will “make or break” each investment.
  • Educate product management colleagues and then review each of their product investment initiatives with a FastWorks lens.
  • Support multiple concurrent research engagements, including those in which several different design agencies may play a leading role, and ensure research content is delivered by deadlines.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining and improving the rate of new product introductions amidst evolving priorities.
  • Develop and implement criteria, scorecard and methodology for tracking institutional progress in both learning and applying the FastWorks methodology and driving successful product investments
  • Engage customers directly with Product Management team members in a variety of venues: customer design studies, focus groups, one-on-one customer engagements, workshops, etc.
  • Be recognized as a highly credible and valuable member of the Product Management team within both GE Oil & Gas and GE Digital and collaborate effectively and credibly with GE Digital Design and Engineering colleagues.


    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • A minimum of 12 years of technical experience along with established leadership credentials in more than one product organization during career.

  • GE Leadership Program Graduates will get credit towards relevant work experience, commensurate to the program they have completed

    Eligibility Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.
  • Role may entail up to 40% travel
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Ramon, CA

  • Experience commercializing, launching, and scaling SaaS products.
  • Experience working with Oil & Gas industry firms and/or solution providers.

    Technical Expertise:

  • Expert in application of the FastWorks (Lean Startup) methodology with a proven track record of success across multiple software product launches and investment cycles.
  • Strong cross functional collaboration and influencing skills at high levels and an ability to make decisions that have deep impact.
  • Ability to interpret accessibility, legal, multilingual, and locale requirements and regulations and deliver compliant designs.
  • Ability to recognize patterns and complexity in problems, identify algorithms to modify behaviors that drive better outcomes, and implement strategic changes in how programs are executed.
  • Ability to evangelize shared best practices and communication techniques across teams at GE.
  • Experienced at managing within a budget, delivering to mutually agreed-upon deliverable dates, and working in an Agile-based, design sprint model.
  • Exceptional presentation skills and capable of being an asset to product management counterparts in their customer research efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence effectively across all organizational levels, including members of GE and customers’ executive teams.
  • Exceptional ability to train and lead workshops with a range of audiences for maximum impact and clearly articulate decisions verbally and in writing.
  • Adept at working with globally distributed teams across disciplines.
  • Experience with designing industrial, commercial applications.
  • Demonstrated capability of 'rolling up sleeves and getting hands dirty'.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver top performance in a high-growth, entrepreneurial work environment.
