Role Summary:
As the Customs, Regulatory & Compliance Leader you will be responsible for setting up the W2W Monitoring process, drive a team to perform audits, define the strategy and ensure regulatory adherence. You will be a key member of the Customs team assisting with the execution of the Customs enterprise standard within Europe and report directly to the Regional Customs Leader.

Essential Responsibilities:

Led by Global Growth Operations (GGO), the team of experts focuses on the delivery of world-class financial processes and driving execution of enterprise-wide standards globally. Primary responsibilities will be to execute on the operational delivery model of the customs standard including determining the optimal global organizational structure, process and operating mechanics in line with simplification, quality, and speed.
  • Provide strategy and leadership in the development and implementation of Customs regulations, and other government agency requirements affecting imports and exports in the region in support of Enterprise Standard;
  • Responsible for designing and driving an all comprehensive strategy to ensure compliance with all import/export activities to meet all country procedures and processes;
  • Shape and form a team of experts that can represent GOC both within the industrials as well as externally with the authorities.
  • Identify Customs risks areas and develop actionable plans and procedures to mitigate those risks;
  • Responsible for leading a matrix team in support of the execution of the Customs Enterprise Standard within the region;
  • Evaluate internal controls and drive implementation of recommended improvement plans;
  • Assess baseline data to communicate status & define further integration plan with business sites;
  • Provide advice, counsel and training to key stakeholders (business & internal) regarding Customs compliance, regulations and laws
  • Lead, coach, coordinate and motivate the Customs team by promoting and developing talent, strengthening pipeline and promoting reward & recognition;
  • Serve as primary contact for Customs officials in resolving complex Customs inquiries;
  • Support various metrics and monitoring programs related to assigned responsibilities;
  • Participate on applicable GE Customs Council Communities;
  • Customs process owner for monitoring;
  • Manage & mobilize different stakeholders;
  • Pre-migration due diligence


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • College degree from an accredited university or In country Professional Customs Certification/Accreditation or high school diploma or equivalent plus strong relevant experience
  • Significant experience in international trade compliance, customs, supply chain, or other process/projects management
  • Change agent with strong credibility and influence in the organization. Open minded to new tools and developments and willingness to try new approaches.
  • Ability to influence many different stakeholders at various levels of the organization and liaise within the GE matrix to obtain support and expertise if and when required
  • Proven experience impacting performance excellence
  • Must be willing to travel within the region.

  • Technical knowledge and/or the ability to obtain technical input


Desired Characteristics:

  • CAS graduate
  • Professional Customs Certification or Accreditation
  • University degree in a Customs related area such as transportation, foreign trade, trade law or finance, accounting preferred
  • Demonstrated audit mindset
  • Demonstrated Compliance mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to use knowledge, experience and instinct to make accurate and timely decisions
  • Demonstrated ability of working with all levels of internal and external organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to implement simple, fast and non-bureaucratic process improvements and techniques – ideally some project management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to use knowledge, experience and instinct to make accurate and timely decisions
  • Wing to wing expertise across customs processes
  • Experience in working with global teams and demonstrates a global mindset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Prior management experience leading remote teams
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability of working with all levels of internal and external organizations
