Role Summary: GE is building operations teams focused on performance and availability of Network infrastructure consumed by all business segments. These teams are composed of highly talented individuals obsessively focused on availability through operational excellence. The ideal individual is relentlessly technical, passionate for automating everything and totally committed to delivering amazing customer experiences. This role is focused on delivering monitoring and automation capabilities.
Lead deployment and management of enterprise monitoring and automation tools focused on the network space
Establish performance baselines, capacity thresholds, correlate events, and define monitoring/alerting criteria for network devices and services
Develop automated solutions to address potential problems before they result in a service interruption
Create automation for programmatic deployment and management of tools used in network production environment
Design and lead deployment of capacity models to baseline transactional load compared to resource performance and leverage data to predict overall system capacity
Distill volumes of data, analyzes performance results, diagnoses performance problems and clearly characterize system performance to stakeholders
Respond and lead resolution to on-call escalations for urgent issues
Provide coaching and direction to junior team members to ensure they have sufficient guidance and technical leadership to successfully fulfill their duties
BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Minimum 3 years IT experience in enterprise-wide deployments
Exceptional knowledge and experience managing operating systems (Unix, Linux, Windows)
Experience with common scripting languages (Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby)
Experience with network management platforms (NetMRI, HPNA, CA Spectrum and EHealth)
Obsessive about uptime, availability and reliability while being proactive about everything
Strong understanding of cloud computing, including security, usage scenarios, and infrastructure basics
Experience managing version control systems such as Git
Experience using an automated configuration management system (Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
Excellent knowledge of Network Management (SNMP, MIB)
Experience with configuring, customizing, and extending monitoring tools (Datadog, Sensu, Grafana, Splunk)
Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP networking, and inter-networking technologies (routing/switching, proxy, firewall, load balancing etc.)
