Role Summary:
The Lead Project Management Specialist will be responsible for project delivery, profit and loss accountability, and customer satisfaction through management of GE Automation and Control projects, both new and retrofit control system upgrades for power generation rotating equipment (turbines and generators) as well as balance of plant and DCS systems.

Essential Responsibilities:
As the Lead Project Management Specialist, you will:

  • Serve as the GE representative and focal point for the customer on the project, owning the customer relationship for the duration of the project, and driving customer issue resolution. Manage the internal and external communication loop
  • Define, set up and secure the necessary resources for the execution of the project. Organize the project team and ensure that the team members have clearly identified roles, responsibilities, defined interfaces, and are empowered within their scope of duties
  • Manage the allocated scope of the project (or projects) from inception to completion
  • Provide reporting to all stakeholders
  • Own project execution, including coordination of engineering, procurement, shipping logistics, field execution of outage scope
  • Provide Project Leadership, effectively managing and facilitating cross-functional GE teams to ensure on time delivery, contract deliverables fulfillment, and margin attainment / enhancement
  • Understand, Own and implement Contract Terms & Conditions
  • Manage and report all financial aspects of the project including budgets, sales, costs, margin, invoicing, receivables and change orders; provide cost-to-complete forecasts
  • Develop, maintain and drive project schedule
  • Actively identify, manage, and reduce project risks throughout the project life-cycle
  • Actively participate in process initiatives and project reviews to drive risk mitigation, best practices / lessons learned, and project execution excellence
  • Provide feedback to Sales, Tendering and other Business Functions on the performance of the Project and processes
  • Facilitate Project Review meetings, either at customer site or in GE offices



Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 3 years in relevant power generation industry experience, knowledge of rotating power generation equipment is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to changing technology
  • Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally up to 20%
  • Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a valid passport
  • Ability and willingness to work in a location in Salem or Richmond, Virginia


Desired Characteristics:
  • PMP Certification
  • Master's Degree
  • Practical knowledge of GE and/or Alstom products (e.g., MarkV, MarkVI and MarkVIe, Alspa 5/6, P320, etc…)
  • SAP / PMx Enterprise Software experience
  • Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, results oriented – Able to make reasoned, sound, and timely decisions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer focused mindset
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills for technical and business audiences
  • Able and willing to take ownership and responsibility for assigned tasks
  • Enthusiastic self-starter, positive “Can-Do” attitude – Proven track record of producing quality deliverables on specification, to project budget, at product cost, and on schedule
  • Team player with cross- discipline, and functional leadership knowledge, skills, and ability to influence effectively
  • Able to work successfully in matrix environment – Executing multiple assignments and priorities
  • Continuous improvement “mindset” with an ability to identify, influence, and implement better ways to do an activity or process
  • Strong communication skills to influence managers, project team members and negotiate with customers
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively switch-task and manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Project management skills and ability to translate contractual, corporate and business unit goals and objectives into realistic project execution plans
  • Flexibility to work occasional extended hours when required to communicate with different time zones, support site personnel and clients, and deal with emergency situations
  • Experience leading high visibility and high dollar, critical projects
  • Good customer relationship management and problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail and time management skills to ensure deadlines are met
  • Knowledge and use of computer software, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project
