Role Summary: The Sr. Network Operations Engineer will be responsible for driving network operations programs and support for the GE WAN environment. This will include interacting with strategic global vendors to maintain and support our infrastructure, making changes to critical infrastructure, resolving incidents, leading problem tickets, and driving programs to increase the performance and availability of our environment.
The Sr. Network Operations Engineer is responsible for:
Day to day operational functions related to core routing/switching, WAAS, and remote site WAN connectivity.
Proactive health, capacity, failover planning and obsolescence management for remote WAN connectivity (spoke routers/circuits/WAE devices).
Member of teams focused on improving the performance and availability of the WAN environment.
Technical escalation for outages to the remote WAN connectivity
Leading the change planning / scripting / implementation of changes.
Leading the follow up and investigative actions for systemic problems in the environment.
Part of a team doing IOS upgrades on remote WAN gear.
Part of an on call rotation (24x7x365) for critical outages.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Management or other technical / IT field, OR in lieu of a degree: a HS diploma/GED and a minimum 5 years of IT experience or equivalent military experience / training.
Minimum 3 years of experience working in IT Infrastructure.
Minimum 3 years of experience working in telecommunications / systems infrastructure in a large-scale / global enterprise.
Must be 18 years of age or older.

Ability to collaborate effectively with (and learn from) other network operations employees, and other individuals within the business, to drive outcomes
Self motivated and passionate about learning new technologies
Strong understanding of network terminology, troubleshooting concepts, and layer 1 -3 connectivity
Basic understanding of how compute / applications interact with the network
Strong understanding of how to troubleshoot / triage network related issues.
Strong understanding of how to configure network devices.
Strong understanding of IP address management
Basic understanding of how to do IOS upgrades & validation testing.
Ability to learn to use network tools to aid in troubleshooting / monitoring the network
Ability to follow established guidelines and SOPs to deliver consistent results
Ability to help define new SOPs and standards.
Ability to work to deadlines and think critically about the task at hand
Strong understanding of routing / switching / wireless technologies
Basic understanding of complex technologies like firewalls, IPS, load balancing.
Ability to understand network utilization / analysis to manage network capacity.
CCNA or equivalent certification & working towards CCNP
