Role Summary:
The Current by GE Product Management organization has an exciting opportunity for a visionary product manager with technical experience in ZigBee mesh networking, Niagara Framework, lighting controls and Cloud based deployment. The successful candidate will lead a cross-functional team that acts as the driving force for the requirements specification, design, development, testing, integration, quality assurance, documentation, marketing and delivery of robust intelligent environment solutions.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Product Manager, Intelligent Environments will be responsible for :

  • Directing a full life cycle of ZigBee mesh and Niagara framework based energy management solution development from conception to delivery, running the entire process like a business
  • Owns full accountability for the financial success of products.
  • Acting as the voice of the customer, engaging with external customers and translating their needs into viable solutions
  • Applying a balance of technical and business/market expertise to create solutions that address customer needs, complement the company's product / solution portfolio and contribute to the company’s financial success
  • Working closely with engineering and other internal and external stakeholders on prioritizing use cases and requirements
  • Serving as the subject matter expert and product expert for ZigBee mesh, Niagara framework, lighting controls, and cloud interfaces
  • Defining the workflow for commissioning the end-to-end system; and methods needed to implement those workflows
  • Testing and optimizing the workflows with commissioning engineers in the field
  • Maintaining keen awareness of commissioning engineer’s needs, identifying, prioritizing and addressing their pain points
  • Implanting best practices in commissioning engineer’s workflows
  • Managing product enhancements and modifications throughout the product lifecycle
  • Driving IoT wireless device ecosystem program by developing strong relationships with ecosystem partners with the goal of expanding the number of products and devices compatible with out IoT platform
  • Building connections across functions with internal stakeholders, such as engineering, marketing, go-to-market, services, sales and operations so that the new systems are absorbed quickly by the market and is a success overall
  • Directing and controlling the activities of a broad functional area having overall responsibility for planning, budgeting, implementing and maintaining costs, methods, and employees
  • Working with leadership and stakeholders in creating a vision and developing/implementing Intelligent Environment solutions focused on delivering profitable growth and evolving the business to be an integral part of a total solution
  • Creating product generational plan including assessing when appropriate to build, buy or partner on technology requirements
  • Identifying technical and commercial partners, define multi-party development/commercialization agreements and develop joint product offerings
  • Defining, developing and executing a multi-generational global business strategy including portfolio management, NPI (new product introduction) execution and go to market strategy to achieve Sales, Contribution Margin, Operating Margin and market share objectives
  • Driving competitive differentiation, customer value and product line growth
  • Making appropriate tradeoffs on product technical and commercial investment choices, and managing the overall product life cycle
  • Track and participate in relevant industry standards activities


    Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree, computer science or engineering focus from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 Years of Engineering / Product Management / leadership experience in the Smart Lighting / IoT domain


  • Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records

  • PhD/MBA – IoT/Cloud business experience
  • 7+ years of experience in Product Management
  • Must be able to energize teams at all levels of the organization and effectively balance multiple initiatives
  • Strong analytical and statistical data driven skills.
  • Must be able to develop and present new product business cases, cost/benefit analysis, economic modeling, and resourcing plans - Requires high energy, assertiveness, and self -motivated individual to work in a fast-paced environment with limited direction
  • Experience leading a product line
  • Leadership role in standardization bodies or trade organization
  • Deep knowledge of the lighting and building energy controls industry
  • Experience of working with distributed cross-functional teams across multiple, interdependent projects within a technically complex and fast paced environment.
  • Strong presence and ability to influence cross-functionally and globally

  • Deep understanding of ZigBee mesh networking, Niagara framework, and IoT platforms.
  • Experience or working knowledge of building automation and control systems, including lighting, HVAC and electrical systems
  • Experience with introducing API based software products, platform, including, how to declare initial version and a subsequent roadmap.
  • Have performed all the tactical steps in the execution, documentation, value propositions, marketing, sales collateral, launch, and distribution
  • Deep knowledge of SW development dynamics, backend and developer interface and platforms
  • Strong communication skills and cross functional breadth to provide strong leadership and direction to product teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp technical landscape, strong technical acumen
  • Proven ability to work, balance, and prioritize a wide range of product inputs from a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience with Agile software development methods including developing story maps, detailed user stories, and other requirements artifacts to support the development process
  • Experienced with web technologies, cloud and mobile. Good understanding of REST APIs.
  • Comfortable speaker at hackathons, trade shows and other developer-facing events.
