Role Summary: The Staff Systems Engineer will deliver strategic compute programs and initiatives. They will be key to system administration of Current & GE Lighting server & storage systems and ensuring high availability of our infrastructure services.
In addition you will :
Be the subject matter expert for our compute and storage platforms
Interface globally with internal / external partners to create / validate the compute and storage architecture to meet the technology requirements
Plan for projected growth and ensuring applications / systems are built to sustain our service capabilities over time
Deployment, upgrade, administration and troubleshooting of Windows operating systems and common roles / features
Responsible for asset management, inventory tracking and support contracts
Assist with business continuity and disaster recovery services pertaining to servers / storage
Interface with technology teams to design & deliver solutions that meet our business needs
Provide L2 support for our Compute, Storage, Backup, Server Virtualization environment
Partner with functions to help shape future initiatives
Provide OS and Hardware-level support and guidance for application / development teams
Lead problem management in terms of repair and recover from hardware and software failures for Compute, Storage, Backup, & Server Virtualization
Participate in a 24x7 rotation for production related issues
Work independently and contributes to the immediate team and to other teams across the business
Investigate root cause of severe and systemic outages, identify corrective actions and apply across the enterprise
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in administering Windows, & Lunix / Unix systems (including experience working in the Cloud computing environment (e.g., AWS), experience on HP / Dell Blade servers and experience working with contracts and dealing with external vendors / consultants)
Minimum of 5 years of experience in various aspects of Server architecture & design
Minimum of 2 years of experience in storage
Experience in supporting the SAP environment and application
Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with senior leadership with confidence and clarity
Proven project management and coordination skills
Possesses strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to work well with global teams, including time-zone flexibility
Understanding of SAN, NAS, local storage technologies, and RAID configurations
