Role Summary:
The Labor & Employment Counsel will be an integral part of GE Digital’s Legal team as well as key client group, Human Resources. This position reports directly to General Counsel of GE Digital.

Essential Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with labor and employment strategy and execution for GE Digital.
  • Translate concepts, develop strategy, and implement change at the business level, as well as provide HR and managerial support on individual matters.
  • Create programs responsive to the external environment, and participate in cross-functional business and cultural development.
  • Provide advice, counsel and training to Human Resource and managerial personnel on a full range of US labor employment matters, including: discrimination and retaliation statutes, ADA / FMLA, state and federal wage and hour laws, equal pay, corporate separateness and contingent workers' issues, OFCCP audits, affirmative action and diversity, drug-free workplace, employee discipline and termination, restructuring, whistleblower laws, wrongful discharge claims, and drafting employment agreements and policies.
  • Assist on strategic global labor employment counseling, disputes and initiatives, including coordination with regional experts and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable jurisdictions' laws and regulations, as well as with GE's Fair Employment Practices and other integrity policies.
  • Ensure cost-effective defense of administrative charges, ADR claims, labor arbitrations, and litigation, which may include personal representation of the Company in various US legal proceedings, and/or engagement and management of outside counsel.
  • Investigate and/or provide oversight and counsel on various internal investigations.
  • Provide advice and counsel on L&E related aspects of mergers and acquisitions.
  • Provide advice, counsel and work on legal projects to improve business policies and processes.
  • Support and contribute to the L&E team's annual objectives and HR team's initiatives.
  • Implement process improvements and other liability prevention initiatives.

    Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience as an attorney at a law firm or as an in-house counsel, with a focus in the practice of labor and employment law. Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited US law school. Current California bar membership desired.

    Desired Characteristics:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as an attorney at a law firm or as an in-house counsel, with a focus in the practice of labor and employment law.
  • Sophisticated Silicon Valley practice and global experience required.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills required. Must be able to manage heavy workload and aggressive timelines in a timely manner, prioritize and work under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong proofreading and editing skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, a quick learner, and have a strong work ethic.
  • Experience effectively participate in cross-functional business and legal teams
  • Ability to work independently and produce a high-quality product.
  • Strong teamwork skills and collaboration.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexible, nimble, and highly responsive.
  • Experience working at rapidly growing environments a plus.
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, a quick learner, and have a strong work ethic.
