Role Summary:
The Data Engineering team helps solve our customers' toughest challenges; making flights safer, power cheaper, and oil & gas production safer for people and the environment by leveraging data and analytics. The Lead Data Engineer will work with the team to create state-of-the-art data and analytics driven solutions, working across GE to drive business analytics to a new level of predictive analytics while leveraging big data tools and technologies.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Staff Data Engineer will be part of a data engineering
or cross-disciplinary team on commercially-facing development projects, typically
involving large, complex data sets. These teams typically include
statisticians, computer scientists, software developers, engineers, product
managers, and end users, working in concert with partners in GE business units.

  • Potential application areas include remote monitoring and
    diagnostics across infrastructure and industrial sectors, financial portfolio
    risk assessment, and operations optimization.
  • Be Proficient in at least one data modality (e.g., text,
    numeric, image), conversant in more than one.
  • Proficient in multiple ETL /MDM tools. Implement Data
    warehouse & Big/Small data designs with automated MDM and data quality
    capabilities.
  • Demonstrate proficiency at industry standard data modeling
    tools (e.g., ERWin, ER Studio, etc.).
  • Integrate domain data knowledge into development of data
    requirements.
  • Look across multiple systems, understands the purpose of
    each system and defines data requirements by systems.
  • Identify downstream implications of data loads/migration
    (e.g., data quality, regulatory, etc.).



Qualifications/Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors
    (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • 5+ years of technical experience in designing and developing
    high performance backend systems
  • 3+ years of JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5, CSS, React.js,
    Angular Experience
  • GE Leadership Program Graduates will get credit towards
    relevant work experience, commensurate to the program they have completed

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. We will not sponsor individuals for employment
    visas, now or in the future, for this job
  • Must be willing to travel (5%)
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in San
    Ramon, CA



Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience developing in back end micro services frameworks
    (such as Node.js/Ruby/PhP)
  • Hands-on experience in interactive graphics, data
    visualizations, data mining, and data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to work with D3 and Three.js frameworks
  • Skilled in database design, data structures & algorithms
    and experienced in implementation
  • Proficient in SQL, Extraction, Transformation and Loading
    (ETL) processes, DB performance tuning and shell scripting.
  • Expertise in Relational and NoSQL database platforms for
    application development.
  • Knowledge on REST & Web application security
  • Knowledge about build tools like gulp/grunt, maven and unit
    testing tools like Junit, Karma.
  • Experience with Hadoop/Hive/Pig and other Distributed file
    systems
Technical Expertise:
  • Strong Database programming background - Fluent with
    writing/debugging stored procedures, building new scripts and performance
    tuning of queries.
  • Understanding and experience in leveraging Hadoop/Hive/Spark
    for large datasets.
  • A strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and
    patterns
  • Exposure to Big Data trends and patterns around building
    analytics is a plus.
  • Prior experience developing on Cloud Foundry or other cloud
    platforms like AWS.
  • Prior experience in IOT, data ingestion to cloud, data
    cleansing and analyzing.
  • Knowledge about build tools like gulp/grunt, maven etc.
  • Well versed in modern web visualization frameworks (e.g. D3,
    Raphael, Highcharts or Flot)
  • Exposure to Big Data trends and patterns around building
    analytics is a plus.
  • Experience with standard charts and visualizations
  • Knowledge of visualization best practices
  • Expertise in building and consuming APIs
  • Demonstrated ability developing for SaaS and PaaS solutions

    with other GE businesses

    effective solutions
