GE announced they signed a definitive agreement to sell the Water & Process Technologies business to SUEZ, a services and solutions company with global operations primarily in water and waste management. The deal will be subject to customary closing conditions such as regulatory review and appropriate consultation and we expect this to be complete by mid-2017. Water & Process Technologies will operate business as usual through this process and will continue to meet its commitments to its valued customers and employees. Role Summary: As part of the Analytical Instruments business, the Field Service Engineer will provide field service support for our core instruments and accessories for the Central to Western New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland area. In this role, you will troubleshoot a variety of routine to complex problems related to operation, maintenance and the calibration of the equipment.
Essential Responsibilities: As the Field Service Engineer, you will:
Assist in providing service activities including parts refurbishment, maintenance, calibration of equipment, inspection, repair, performance testing, customer communications, project assessment and execution, and telephone customer support
Have the ability to travel extensively, and work schedules will fluctuate based on customer and business needs / demands
Perform diagnostics testing, repairs, test and calibration routines on the instructs, and complete all required paperwork
Accurately account for all inventory transactions associates with the repair process
Collect payment information and generate shipping and billing paperwork
Provide extensive equipment support and general hardware and software support
Ensure compliance with all aspects of safety on the job, including the operation and maintenance of an assigned company vehicle and comply with all GE Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies
Associate’s Degree in a technical discipline or vocational school (OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of water processing, plant, or maintenance experience)
Minimum of 2 years of analytical instrument or electro-mechanical field repair experience, customer service experience, and onsite field service experience
Ability and willingness to travel overnight 70% of the time, with short notice as required
Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule based on customer needs
Strong technical, mathematical and customer service skills
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Cognitive and clear communication skills to efficiently support the service process
General knowledge of electrical equipment, chemistry and safety
Vision, manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to service instruments and handle electrical equipment
Ability to learn applicable company procedures within a reasonable time from start of employment
Computer proficiency with a minimum of word processing and spreadsheets, and basic data base knowledge
Ability to use ordinary hand tools, calibrated tools, and analytical instrumentation, as well as chemically aggressive fluids, such as acids and bases
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Self-motivated, with the ability to drive projects to completion with minimal oversight, while demonstrating significant problem solving ability with an unfailing dedication to deadlines and commitments
Proven ability to speak effectively before groups and customers, clients, and other employees within the organization
Ability to communicate effectively and contribute to team projects in a sales environment
Ability to make good business decisions based on risk reward analysis and GE's business objectives
