The proposed thesis “Additive manufacturing process simulation for DMLM powder bed technology” will be carried out under the supervision of both an academic tutor (Politecnico of Turin) and an Avio Aero internal tutor. Assignment is composed by a first period aimed to build a general understanding and state of the art on process simulation and learn how to use the fundamental tools and a second period dedicated to the research. The whole project will be completed by the end of 2017
This activity will use commercial computational tools for AM process simulation. Aim of the research is to identify and assess the main process variables and use the simulation to understand their impact on design and improvements for parts producibility and additive job optimization. The research will include simulation on simplified test cases and an Avio representative application. The know-how generated through this research will be useful in the future to minimize and accelerate design iteration that are currently carried out on new products and parts for feasibility and optimization.
