Role Summary: GE Additive is offering machines, materials and engineering services as a new P&L within GE. This posting is specific to the engineering services team.This team will be focused on additive design consulting and helping customers find the right additive applications. This may entail training, designing, co-creation or physical prototyping.
Essential Responsibilities: The Externals Engineering Staff Designer operates as a design team member providing definition of responsible module deliverables that meet customer, partner and program needs. In this role you will work with engineering, supply chain and other business functional teams to deliver complex aircraft engine designs. The Senior Designer will utilize their expertise to mentor and train team members while participating in and leading business wide continuous improvement and simplification initiatives.

In addition you will :
Create definition of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 3D reusable models in a linked model environment, tolerance stack-ups and various other electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, quality and inspection within expected cost, quality and schedule
Works with engineering and supply chain partners to determine dimensional constraints and geometric tolerances required for proper clearances and fits while maximizing manufacturing producibility
Ensure all interfaces between components are established and agreed upon by Engineering design teams of mating parts and systems
Drive global team development through communication, partnering and mentoring to drive local decision making and autonomy
Work within the guidelines of applicable GE Policies & Procedures, Engineering Standards, Specifications, Government and Commercial Standards, and special security requirements as required
Continuously challenges self and team skills in functional area
Stays current with industry developments in one’s field of expertise
Concurrently manage multiple projects to ensure program cost, quality and schedule requirements are met
Provide technical leadership for team members in the form of training, mentoring, talent development, and work verification
Manages the operational excellence of their assigned program and team members (i.e. metrics, partner interaction, OTD, FTY and cost)
Active participant and leader in short and long-term team, section and / or business goals focused on continuous improvement and simplification
Utilize Lean Six Sigma principles to drive improvements to current business products and processes
Utilizes expertise in Engineering processes (i.e. CPD, Tollgates, etc.) to forecast issues and ensure team productivity
Provides overall technical and administrative oversight for applicable module, systems and program cross functional integration
Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited university or college (OR an Associates Degree in MET, Engineering Graphics, Drafting Technology with college level mathematics and minimum of 10 years of design drafting experience, OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 15 years of design drafting experience)
A minimum of 8 years of experience in the design of mechanical components and systems in aerospace, automotive, transportation, medical or other technical industry
Ability to travel up to 50% for the first six months with the possibility of a reduction to 25% travel thereafter
Additive design or manufacturing experience a plus but not required
Systems level design experience
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and a positive energy
Expert knowledge of computer aided design (CAD), preferably in Siemens NX
Expert understanding of computer aided manufacturing (CAM) and manufacturing processes
Expert understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as it relates to individual parts and overall assemblies (ANSI Y14.5)
Effective problem identification and solution skills
Non-traditional thinkers and the ability to apply non-traditional approach to design
