Role Summary:
The Drives and Control Systems Engineer will provide technical leadership and hands-on service support to resolve customers’ drives, motor excitation, control and industrial automation systems problems.

Essential Responsibilities:
This person will have a high level of technical expertise, be capable of planning and leading a project for his/herself or a team to execute drives, motor excitation, control and industrial automation systems projects and services, understand business profitability, and have great customer skills and an entrepreneurial spirit. This fast-paced role requires strong hands-on drives, motor excitation, control and industrial systems services technical and electrical skills, team leadership, business acumen and highly effective communication skills to perform some or all of:

Test, commission, program, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, retrofit and install high and low voltage drives and motor excitation systems and control and industrial automation equipment, with particular strength in:
  • Drives, motor excitation, control and industrial automation systems software and hardware, including PLC and HMI
  • Power circuits o Control circuits o Industrial communications networks

  • Perform site services, site walks, and site surveys
  • Perform system design/engineering
  • Develop service work scopes, pricing and proposals for customers
  • Plan, coordinate and execute work in an organized, safe and effective manner to meet schedule, budget, and customer’s expectations
  • Make a work site and site activities safe for self and all other members of the site team
  • Prepare and verify reports and deliver to customer
  • Prepare and finalize job details for invoicing
  • Own the business results for self and jobs and maintain a high level of utilization
  • Develop their leadership, job management and technical skills on an ongoing basis
  • Identify and implement cost and process improvements and standardization to continuously improve productivity and efficiency
  • Promote GE capabilities to customers and grow service opportunities with them
  • Apply practical application experience and knowledge of drives, motor excitation, control and industrial automation systems to develop and recommend solutions to solve customer issues and processes and develop GE business
  • Perform administrative functions, such as: ordering materials, getting quotations, filing/archiving data and documents


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years’ proven track record servicing some or all of drives, motor excitation, control and industrial automation systems
  • Engineer or Technician or Certified Electrical Technician/Technologist
  • Control and automation aptitude and hands-on software/hardware capability
  • Understand documented instructions, procedures and electrical drawings, and develop the same
  • Well-organized
  • Excellent English written and oral skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally, work overtime/weekends, respond to weekend and off-hours service requests, and support extended national (and international) assignments from time to time as required
  • Outgoing self-starter with strong work ethic, ability to work independently and with the initiative and drive to make things happen quickly, and be responsible for their business results
  • Entrepreneurial, customer-focused with ability to develop strong customer relations and generate customer opportunities
  • Excellent team player with exceptional communication, interpersonal and leadership skills, and ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with team members Proficient with Word and Excel
  • Ability to travel up to 85% of the time


Desired Characteristics:
  • Experienced with test equipment and testing procedures for drives and control equipment
  • Familiarity with environmental protection procedures and basic electrical safety practices
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to lead a team or work site
