Role Summary: The EHS Specialist is principally responsible for providing EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) oversight and support to the San Jose site operations and Nuclear Field Services Business. The site includes multiple business components including new reactor engineering, field services engineering, outage tooling, reactor modifications and outage training. You will interact extensively with training activities for outage teams, customers and regulators.
Essential Responsibilities: Additionally, you will supports EHS Programs for both GEH (GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy) San Jose Operations and the Nuclear Field Services Business. Occasional travel (1-5 weeks /yr. estimated) may be required to learn about and support customer outages. You must be a visible champion for driving a strong positive Nuclear Safety and Security culture. The position also has generalist responsibilities and covers environment, health and safety media.
As the EHS Specialist, you will:
Provide input to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager and site management on EHS issues
Manage integration of EHS policies and practices into the business
Be accountable for implementation of EHS programs and procedures to ensure company compliance
Drive facility readiness for internal and external audits, customer visits and project reviews by managing EHS procedural compliance, training, compliance programs and housekeeping
Assure all regulatory required permits, licenses, reports and submittals are filed on time and accurately
Manage function-related costs across site
Ensure non-resident work force, outage and project personnel are trained and following all site practices, work rules and safety procedures
Maintain an in-depth knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements
Own and administer the site’s GenSuite compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems including EHS management systems (Framework 2.0), audits, training documentation, waste management, I&I (Injury and Illness) recordkeeping, and accident investigation, among others
Develop and work with site safety committee focused on EHS program development, implementation and improvement
Participate in leadership of event and injury investigations, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) injury and Illness case management with determination of recordability
Interface with medical case management, worker compensation and occupational medical clinic organizations as required
Manage the handling and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes in compliance with state, federal and GE requirements and minimizing quantities
Maintain appropriate waste profiles for all waste streams via GE Corporate approved vendors
Act as the on-site Human Performance (HU) advocate
