Role Summary: In the role of Electrical and FPGA Design Engineer, you will:
Design and develop NDT solutions, including Ultrasound, Eddy Current, and Remote Visual Equipment
Develop and validate on-board FPGA RTL signal processing code in VHDL using offline simulation and in-situ validation tools
Maintain related RTL design documents and source code in various revision control systems, including SVN and MS Team Foundation Server
Participate in the development of electrical architectures and detailed electrical designs for portable ultrasonic NDT equipment (UT). The primary design challenges are low noise, high bandwidth circuitry, lowest reasonable power, wired and wireless connectivity, digital signal processing, and the typical battery-operated system paradigms
Work with platform and program teams to optimize designs for customer satisfaction, cost effectiveness, and reusability
Devise and execute cross-functional (VHDL, HW, SW, Mechanical) experiments to alleviate high risk portions of designs, thereby enabling programs to launch on time
Develop algorithms in Matlab or Mathematica and implement them in product FPGA/DSP/Processor.
Provide technical leadership to full-time, rotational, contractor, and co-op talent
Document products and technical data generated consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related engineering degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum 3 years of experience in digital system design
Minimum 1 year professional VHDL or Verilog design experience
Experience with NDT, Industrial or Medical portable system design
Graduation from a corporate rotational engineering leadership program
Signal processing algorithm development in Matlab or Mathematica
Interest and capability to do limited software development in C/C++ as needed to support experiments or microcontroller implementations
High speed (>1GHz) electrical design experience
ASNT Level II or III equivalency
NDT field inspection experience – with an emphasis on power generation, oil & gas or aerospace
Proficient in the use of common laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes and network analyzers
Working knowledge of either Xilinx or Altera toolchains, including timing closure
Proficient in VHDL or Verilog hierarchical development including test benches for simulation
