Role Summary: The Senior Welding Engineer will Engineer welded components designed and produced by GE Oil & Gas. In this role you are responsible for specifying and develop welding processes, develop welding technology and solve welding related problems. You will also guide Engineering, Manufacturing and Suppliers in welding science and practice, educating the extended team for the good of the business.
Essential Responsibilities: In the role of Senior Welding Engineer you will:
Write, modify, test and certify welding procedures
Participate directly in critical qualification and RCA / preventive action activities when required
Work with Design Engineering, Material & Processes Engineering and suppliers to define technical / Quality and qualification / certification requirements, driving standardization across product lines whenever beneficial
Lead welding technical reviews and participate as a reviewer
Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments as appropriate
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with Engineering policies and procedures
Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems
Take an active role driving welding technologies working across Oil and Gas as well as GRC initiatives
Bachelor’s Degree in Welding, Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science from an accredited college or university
Minimum 5 years of experience in a Welding Engineering position
Ability to guide and influence others
In-depth understanding of engineering technology and tools
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
Proficient personal computer skills
Proven ability to manage multiple projects as an individual contributor, self-starter
Extensive experience with welding and fabrication; with the range of materials relevant to the Oil & Gas industry
General familiarity with industry Welding and NDT codes and requirements
CWI certification; ASNT and/or EN473 level III certification in LPI, VT, MP NDT techniques
Solid understanding of AWS, ASNT, API, ASTM / ASME, DIN, EN, ISO (materials, tolerances and NDT) standards
