The projects are executed within an international environment involving software development and implementation held in multi-sites and multi-countries. Hence both technical skills and interpersonal (communication both in oral and written form, self-organization, reporting, autonomy, decision making, English) are of utmost importance.

Role Summary:
Key to this role is the responsibility to implement GE Software Solution related deployments for utility customers.
This role will use a blend of development, solution architecture, and even technical leadership skills depending on the targeted position level.
Asset Management platform – critical IT systems –near real-time applications.
Act as software engineer for Asset Management projects including GIS, Mobile, and OMS

Essential Responsibilities:
A. Application Technical Support
  • Troubleshoot complex Smallworld custom application technical issues reported by
    customers via GE support or services channels.
  • Contribute technical and problem-solving expertise to ad hoc teams for resolution of
    customer escalations
  • Assist front-line Support and Engineering with recreation of complex/subtle/elusive
    technical issues on custom applications
  • Provide expert advice/consultancy to customers and mentoring to colleagues
  • Maintain expertise with custom features, supported platforms and common configurations
    in one or more technology areas and have broad knowledge of the entire product line
  • Effective communication with customers and colleagues in Support/Services
    Contributing to wider Services project work when appropriate, such as testing activities
    as part of knowledge transfer
B. Application Maintenance (build, maintain, release)
  • Create Application Development and Test Environments for the long-term support and
    release of the Application
  • The build environment owner is responsible for enforcing the process whereby any future
    change is controlled and released to the customer.
  • Maintain a version of the build environment which is accessible to stakeholders (GE
    support channels, engineers, 3rd Party Suppliers).
  • Creation of Application Service Packs, deployment to Live Environment plus associated
    release documentation and localisation requirements.
  • Management and triage of application defect records in a defect tracking system.
  • Defect resolution (defect fixes) within the application in the form of new Service Packs or,
    for high priority issues, hot-fixes
    Application Release Management - creation of Application Service Packs, integration,
    regression and release testing ready for Live System.
  • Maintaining Application specific documentation


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Geography, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering.
  • Fluent in English
  • 2+ years of experience in a support or projects role
    Software development skills
  • Strong knowledge & experience with GIS (GeoSpatial and Mobile solutions)
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience of Citrix, VMware, Cloud technologies
  • Experience of HTML5, JavaScript, Web technologies
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability for troubleshooting and problem solving complex issues
  • Ability to demonstrate skills in a complex source code management and defect tracking
    environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel


Desired Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of the GE Asset and/or Outage Management software, or related GIS/OMS and/or object-oriented design and programming education/experience are a big plus
  • Magik development, XML scripting (to support UI
    developments) and Datamodelling (preferably using the Smallworld CASE tool) for
    data model extensions are also highly desirable
  • Experience
    with requisite Smallworld applications (such as, Core Spatial Technology,
    Office Suites, Network Inventory, Field Force Automation, etc).
