Role Summary:
BHGE Inspection Technologies is a leading innovator in the development of quality non-destructive inspection system products and solutions that consistently deliver, and set industry standards for breakthrough technology, reliability, and durability. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and development of optical components, parts, and assemblies for Remote Visual Inspection instruments and probes.

Essential Responsibilities:

In the role of Lead Optical Design Engineer, you will:

  • Work closely with Product Management & Marketing, Industrial Design, Hardware Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Program Management to convert marketing requirements for new products into optical specifications, designs, parts, assemblies, and final products
  • Design and test products to ensure conformance to specifications, and support of products through initial production
  • Have high degree of interaction with the overall development team and suppliers
  • Be a self-starter, self-motivated, and able to embrace multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Be able to generate and communicate creative design concepts to others
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the product development process, with project experience from concept to manufacture
  • Miniature optics design
  • Lens design, tolerance analysis
  • Sequential and non-sequential ray tracing
  • Stray light analysis
  • Illumination and opto-mechanical design and analysis
  • Optical elements characterization methodology and instrumentation
  • Prototype, test and validate optical systems
  • Design and develop Imaging/ non-imaging optical system from concept to production
  • Design for manufacturability
  • Lens supplier qualification, interfacing for prototyping and evaluation.
  • Production trouble shooting, yield improvement and cost reduction
  • Coating/thin film physics
  • UV / IR knowledge

    Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM' field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 5 years of optical engineering design experience

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Proficiency in optics design software (Code V and TracePro design software are preferred)
  • Experience in design for manufacturing, problem solving related to optical issues associated with parts, assemblies, and products is desired
  • Experience with test & measurement equipment, SolidWorks, Windows based PCs, and Microsoft Office
  • Effective communicator within technical and non-technical environments
  • Team player, hands-on, detail oriented, and have good prioritization skills
  • Well independently, prioritize effectively, follow and explain technology developments, and make assertive decisions
