Role Summary:
Responsible for the delivery of all Services UK Projects ranging from (£10K - £2M) associated with both the GE Solutions Grid Product Lines. The Project Manager shall plan, manage and deliver all projects from transfer through to Provisional Acceptance Certificates (PAC) and final cash collection, ensuring that any additional business opportunities are pursued. Delivering high levels of customer satisfaction and maximum project margin and value.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all Services Projects are managed in an efficient and cost effective manner, making customers and their needs a primary focus, developing productive customer relationships, understanding customer problems and expectations, whilst sharing information in an open and transparent way. Consider how actions or plans will affect customers, respond quickly to meet customer needs, resolve problems and avoid over commitments. Whilst monitoring scope changes and submitting variations in a timely and transparent manner.
  • Planning and organising courses of action for self and others to ensure work is completed efficiently. Adjust priorities consistently within organisation objectives. Interface with the operations team utilising internal and external resources for carrying out critical tasks. Allocate appropriate amounts of time for avoiding scheduling conflicts, developing timelines and milestones for task completion and planned customer payments.
  • Clearly understand the contractual obligations of what is excluded and included in each contract (customer contract, subcontractors, suppliers) and where relevant relationships with partners, whilst keeping an acute awareness of the legal implications. Where possible seek to increase both financial and time opportunities to improve net margin, cash flow, overall financial results including on time customer payments. Apply a clear contract management control system in order to reduce risks and develop opportunities
  • Ensure where possible the project is completed within the approved budget and demonstrates all aspects of financial management for the benefit of Alstom. Make sure regular project reviews are carried out for verifying completion costs. Identify, analyse, and constantly track all risk activities through the life-cycle of the project and mitigate in an appropriate and safe manner.
  • Promote a culture of openness, transparency and regular communication that creates an environment of high ethical standards in accordance with the GE Grid Solutions ethics, leading to a culture of knowledge sharing, career development, training and future succession planning. Hire, train, motivate and evaluate people in the team in order to provide the unit with needed competencies and performance.

  • Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Ideally an Engineering Degree or equivalent in electrical or science based subject (BSc, BEng, HND, HNC) with relevant Project Management or Commercial experience, or with an equivalent level qualification in Business Studies.
  • With considerable experience gained within a Substation Services environment with both project management and commercial experience. Dealing with various customers at all levels within the business. Ability to provide detailed project plans, project reviews, risk management, contract management, project reports and recommendations based on customer interactions, face to face discussions and industry standards and regulations. Knowledge and application of both EHS and CDM is also required.
  • Must have experience and success in meeting challenging business targets. Proven track record in Project Delivery, managing people directly or indirectly. Good understanding of Contract conditions, legal and financial awareness. Good knowledge of the Substation Environment and customer requirements and expectations – Customer minutes lost, customer interruptions, site regulations, quality and health and safety.
