Role Summary:
GE Power seeks a Senior Chef Automation Developer. This individual will be responsible for providing expertise and guidance to an automation development team, responsible for delivering automated solutions, for cloud infrastructure and platforms that support enterprise applications. This individual will help to define standards and processes, train and mentor junior developers and evaluate new automation technologies.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Senior Chef Automation Developer will:
  • Develop fully automated build and deployment processes using Opscode Chef, Ruby and other scripting languages.
  • Lead the development of automation & software tools to support build automation and operational activities.
  • Work as part of a scrum team and develop accurate work estimates, comprehensive code comments and code documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership, training and guidance to support teams, junior developers and other architects.
  • Provide timely and appropriate communication to business owners, stakeholders, and users on issue status and resolution.
  • Prototype creative solutions quickly, and be able to guide the team in crafting and implementing.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies.
  • Responsible for full life cycle of Cookbooks, scripts and other automations.
  • Work with different teams to understand integrations with GE systems.
  • Ensure software quality assurance and adherence to standards and processes.
  • Drive efficiency and effectiveness in development.
  • Understand customer requirements and contribute to the development solutions and projects.
  • Create system documentation/play book and participate in requirements gathering, design and code reviews.
  • Performs defect corrections for ensuring quality.
  • Drive projects to evaluate and implement new cloud based services.




Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university or an Associate's Degree with 2 years experience in IT.
  • Minimum 2 years of work with Amazon AWS, Verizon, Azure and other cloud providers
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Software Development.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with Chef, Ruby and other scripting languages.



Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong Proficiency with Ruby, Chef, berkshelf, JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), GIT, Jenkins and Yum
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills Strong Technical project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time
  • Experienced working on SCRUM / Agile team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong team player – collaborates well with others to solve problems and actively incorporates input from various sources
  • Experience working with REST or Soap APIs
  • Experience with cloud provider SDKs and/or CLIs
  • Experience with orchestration tools for Cloud
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation and infrastructure as software concepts
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or equivalent quality certification
