Are you looking for an engineering role with a focus on technical achievement and detailed engineering design?
GE Aviation has an opening for a machine design engineer to work on high powered rotating equipment utilizing leading edge design and analysis tools, all the way from concept through testing and into production.
You will be working alongside “best in class” design and test engineering talent
Qualified candidates are needed to round out our team with additional confident, technically focused engineers to help with a number of new projects.
In particular, you will :
Participate in the design, analysis, and test assignments using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures while fulfilling task requirements
Involved in design, analysis, and testing of the power transmission and machine elements and packaging of high speed, power dense rotating equipment, gearboxes, electric drives and hydraulic systems
Design and optimize dynamic load path models of bearing supported rotating machines containing turbine and gearbox elements.
Calculate and justify mechanical machine element and associated packaged fits and gaps, and generate axial and radial tolerance stack ups acceptable for use in equipment that experiences high loads from vibration and high rate of rotation at high and low temperature extremes
Create technical justification and procedural documentation to support engineering decision making and to facilitate completion of analyses and testing
Flow down and create personal, detailed work plans from higher level program requirements. Monitor progress and provide % complete and effort level to complete feedback.
Utilize 3-D (CAD) to support the creation of innovative design solutions and assist creation of supporting design documentation
Create, dimension, and check assembly and component drawings for quality of presentation and accuracy to requirements and existing standards
Working knowledge of GD&T as applied to mechanical components of both machined and cast construction
Understand design process for componentry to be fabricated using mill and lathe manufacturing, investment casting, additive manufacturing and an apply overall knowledge of DFM and best practices
Support the procurement of pre-production hardware for performance verification testing prior to production release
Work on one or multiple new product introduction (NPI) projects from proposal to final production
Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
Participate on teams assigned to address product related or organizational initiatives and generic issues
Participate as a presenter in technical and program reviews
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or any related specialized equivalent from an accredited University or College Minimum of 3 years of experience in the design of mechanical components and systems
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT :
This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment
Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited University or College
Experience in design, analysis, and testing in the some or all of following areas :
Rotating machinery, Power transmission and related machine design elements
Preloaded bearing systems
Turbo-machinery and associated thermodynamics principles
Fluid flow in piping and valves
Structural packaging for high load, high temperature environments
Ability to analyze tolerance stack-ups on layouts and check detail and assembly drawings utilizing G,D & T where applicable
Experience in the design of equipment that must survive in shock and high vibration environments
Strong technical aptitude, including, but not limited to, use of applicable engineering tools and understanding of appropriate engineering theory
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on the ability to work with and learn from experienced co-workers
Personal computer (PC) proficiency
Ability to write test plans, procedures and test reports
Understanding of Design for Manufacturing Experience with UG NX CAD or equivalent 3-D design software
Experience working on global teams
Familiar with the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools in the review of innovative design solutions
