Role Summary: GE Healthcare Ireland Ltd. manufactures and distributes X-ray and MRI Contrast Media for internal and external patients worldwide. In 2016, our production volume was ca 27.7 mill units (vials) and supported turnover across the Supply chain of ~USD 500M. The Cork plant has ~600 employees.
Reporting to the Site Lead GE Healthcare Ireland, the successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the leadership & management of the Engineering Department by ensuring that the plant meets expectations in terms of customer service & financial control. The position involves ensuring the departments within the function & directed so that their respective priorities are achieved & enhance the direct relationship culture on site. The Engineering Manager is a core member of the Senior Management Team.
The Engineering Manager will demonstrate Role Model Leadership by facilitating, coaching, mentoring and developing the team. The Engineering Manager will be a driving force for the Engineering Department by creating an environment of continuous improvement using Lean principles & resources as well as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Standards. The Engineering Manager will deliver EHS performance in accordance with the requirements of the company’s 5S, safety and environmental management programs.
• Active member of the Senior Management Team contributing to the overall success & direction of the Cork site. • Manage all engineering activities so plant output targets are achieved in a compliant environment (GMP, GEP), and engineering activities comply with laws, regulations, and standards both internally & with external statuary bodies. • Leading, motivating, developing, and managing the performance of the Engineering Functional Teams including Maintenance Engineering, Sterility Assurance (Thermal Validation), & Process Engineering (including process validation). Responsibility for championing the understanding of ‘GE Beliefs’ to underpin performance. • Co-ordinate engineering activities between Maintenance Engineering, Sterility Assurance, & Process Engineering (with strong linkage to plant operations) to support cost effective Engineering Structures and procedures. Manage headcount and expenditure within budgeted figures and deliver on cost savings • Develop capacity & resourcing plans for existing & future manufacturing needs. • Ensure compliance to the requirements of cGMP, and to our site quality programmes including an active part in the quality management review process • Manage & give direction to site for Plant Asset Lifecycle Program to drive strategic investment requirements for capacity, efficiency, productivity, supply chain lead time, compliance, and EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety). • Manage and give leadership for the digital enablement for Brilliant Factory. • Manage and give leadership to Energy Management program (ISO50001 certified) on site. • Manage and lead a culture of lean and continuous improvement in all Engineering Departments and interactions to manufacturing operations to drive unit cost improvement. • Have External Focus to understand business and engineering trends in the global supply chain and implement best practices in Cork site. • Responsible for having the necessary trained engineering resources with the appropriate skills, adhering to site safe work practices, available to maximise operational equipment uptime. • Manage Continuous Professional Development for the Engineering team through education, performance development (PD@GE), training, coaching, mentoring, and on the job experience programs.
Qualifications/Requirements: Continuation of Essential Responsibilities:
• Achieve key project deliverables on time and in budget and support Ad Hoc projects as and when required. • Liaise with Operations, QO, Logistics departments on product and process development matters, New Product Introduction (NPI), and customer trials • Deliver Environmental, Health & Safety performance in accordance with the requirements of the company’s 5S, safety and environmental management programmes.
• Degree in Engineering and/or in a related discipline or equivalent knowledge & experience. • Significant years’ leadership experience within a regulated industry. • Significant years’ maintenance, process, or validation experience in a pharmaceutical or regulated industry. • Excellent knowledge and experience of documentation, standards, and guidelines. A strong working knowledge of site plant processes including Production, Packaging, Facilities, Utilities, Logistics, Finance, ESH, Quality. • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels across multiple functions of the organization. Experience in developing strong working relationships across teams and functions. • A strong working knowledge of processes such as project management, validation, automation, maintenance systems, 6 sigma, lean methodology, cost centre management, and change management processes. • Self-starter with good motivational, decision making, planning, and communication skills. • Experience of managing teams in a fast paced and complex environment.
