Role Summary: As a Senior Staff Software Engineer for Optimization Technology, you will develop software that enhances GE’s optimization solutions in the power generation industry. You will operate in an Agile software development environment as part of a development team consisting of software architects, data scientists, UX designers, product managers, and other developers.
Essential Responsibilities: Areas of focus will include: development of data modeling and configuration tools for real-time process optimization, integration of existing .Net-based optimization software with GE’s Predix platform, and supervisory control application development.
In this role, you will:
Provide technical leadership in defining, developing, and evolving software in a fast-paced and agile development environment using the latest software development technologies and infrastructure.
Gain and then exploit an in-depth understanding of a large codebase of existing optimization tools, to leverage/evolve/integrate that functionality with GE’s Predix platform.
Work with Product Managers to understand product requirements & vision.
Consult with Optimization Application Engineers and other Subject Matter Experts on matters requiring domain (power industry) expertise.
Be an expert level in design, architecture and development, with an ability to take a deep dive in the implementation aspects if the situation demands.
Be an expert in core data structures as well as algorithms, and implement them using language of choice when necessary.
Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and Testing Techniques.
Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project.
Demonstrates the initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college
Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in software development

Bachelor’s Degree in a ‘STEM’ field, preferably computer science
Experience with optimization software technologies, especially as applied to power generation.
Experience using backend technologies such as .NET, Java, Spring MVC, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.
Experience with all aspects of development related to the maintenance and enhancement of large systems/codebases.
Proactively identifies and removes project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team. Able to navigate accountability in a matrix organization.
