Role Summary:
The Brilliant Factory Software Engineer is responsible for designing and developing software solutions as part of the GE Power software portfolio. The Engineer will also be responsible for developing integrations between the shop floor control systems / Brilliant Factory tools / MES systems, and Power Max SAP, which is the global ERP. He/She will be responsible for driving key projects and providing expertise on the architecture, design, and development of shop floor applications.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Brilliant Factory Software Engineer will:

  • Experience in designing, developing, and implementing shop floor control / manufacturing execution / web based / client server systems
  • Experience with requirements definition for manufacturing shop floor control systems
  • Programming experience (Java/C/C++/.NET)
  • Scripting experience (SQL Server preferred)
  • Experience in the integration of shop floor control applications with PLC equipment and ERP manufacturing applications. SAP specific experience preferred, but not required.
  • 5-10 years of experience working in a manufacturing or distribution organization(s)
  • Experience working within as many of the following business areas: Manufacturing, Shop Floor, Production Planning, Inventory Management, Warehouse Management
  • Experience with formal IT Methodologies (Software Development Lifecycle Management, Data Flow Diagraming, Process Flow Charting and Process Modeling, JAD sessions, Joint Requirements Planning / Joint Applications Development
  • Strong Experience with Network Element protocols (TL1, CLI, SNMP, NetConf)
  • Experience in usage of SCADA / HMI software (prefer Proficy/Alllen Bradley)
  • Familiarity with Linux development environment and open source software
  • Familiarity with web services and web technologies such as HTTP, REST, JSON, etc.
  • Experience with Ethernet Switches and Routers (L3 domain)
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong SW development and architecture concepts and skills
  • Knowledge of networking devices and functions
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiar with Agile development methodologies and tools
  • Competent in Blueprint, design, implement and test shop floor software solutions (clients, hardware, firmware)
  • Support, configure, maintain and troubleshoot issues with existing server infrastructure for critical applications for on premise environments
  • Managing small to medium term IT projects for the Greenville factory
  • Hands on ability in Visual Basic and .NET programming
  • Provide shop floor operations support
  • Serve as solution delivery expert for the design, implementation, and support planning of BMS deployments
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with peers and vendors to seamlessly integrate the program area into the overall strategic objectives and activities of the organization
  • Work as a business partner with customers, client leaders, and users to evaluate / improve business processes and arrive at mutual, cost effective solutions
  • Ensure conformance to system architecture, standards and practices
  • Prepare and present project plans, status reports, cost / benefit studies and recommend funding and resources
  • Initiate direct communication with specific customers, clients, suppliers and systems personnel
  • Act as a change agent for business processes
  • Keep up to date with enabling technologies and work as a partner to promote their use


  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology (IT), Computer Science or Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 5 years work experience with current information technologies and their implementation into the business function
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in software engineering / programming /scripting experience in a discrete manufacturing / supply chain/shop floor environment
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with shop floor control systems / MES systems / shop floor integration projects
