Role Summary: The Advanced (ATP) Software (SW ) Controls Systems Advanced Lead Engineer will be responsible for the design / development and maintenance of application software development, and hardware interfaces in support of engineering and test activities. The role includes responsibilities leading to certification of control system designs.
Essential Responsibilities: The ATP SW Control System Advanced Lead Engineer is responsible to establish the system level requirements management, to overlook the requirements flow down and the relevant verification and validation activities, to derive the integration test procedure and to define and lead analyses in support of the system design, integration and change assessment. The role includes responsibilities leading to the design and development of system testing facilities (dry rigs and wet rigs) for the ATP Engine control system qualification/certification. Execute with limited guidance, the analysis, evaluation and delivery of assigned aircraft engine projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product /program requirements. Activities include:
Document and maintain requirements to ensure complete coverage and traceability
Develop and maintain test plans to cover documented control system requirements
Perform and review verification and validation test results and documentation
Assign and manage test requirements, develop test approach and provide cost/time estimates
Review system operation in hardware-in-the-loop lab tests (dry rigs and wet rigs), ground engine tests, flight tests
Support the design and development of the ATP Engine control system testing facilities (Dry Rigs and Wet Rigs)
Develop and coordinate the top level engine instrumentation layout and instrumentation plan
Ensure adherence to GE HW/SW development process including support for internal and external process audits
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned tasks is consistent with engineering policies and procedures while delivering control system certification reports for the US FAA, European EASA and other national airworthiness agencies
Evaluate the functional requirements and provide a recommended approach to meeting the technical and program requirements
Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules and contract commitments
Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams; mentor others in the organization
Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments
Lead process standardization and GE Simplification efforts that improve productivity, quality and speed required to deliver world class control solutions to GE Aviation customers
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Bachelor of Science in Aerospace or Electrical Engineering
Very strong experience in an equivalent engineering position
A strong understanding of systems engineering in the context of aerospace systems, equipment and the integration of equipment onto laboratory environments and platforms
Understanding of mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, fuel and hydraulic principles
Understanding of the operations and maintenance of civil airborne systems and/or engines
Understanding of civil airborne systems and/or engines airworthiness and certification
Exposure to software systems development in avionics systems.
Proficiency with system engineering tools (e.g. DOORS, SCADE, Matlab, Simulink, NPSS, Change & Synergy) and processes for requirements & logic design, simulation and validation at the hardware in the loop environment, engine and flight tests levels
Knowledge of reliability analysis, FMEAs, fault trees and engine condition monitoring
Experience with the DO-178B/C and DO-254 qualification process
Knowledge of FAA and EASA Airworthiness regulations for commercial aircraft engines and control systems e.g. CFR33.28
Experience in working with global teams
Strong teamwork, communication, and documentation skills
