Role Summary:
The Lead Engineer / Technologist will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs and processes for the Noise-Vibration-Harshness (NVH) pertaining to Engine and Engine-Loco systems. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities:
The Lead Engineer / Technologist will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

In addition, you will:
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project
  • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
  • Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Develop technical strategies into granular technical action plans and technology insertion plans to improve product life, life-cycle cost, and performance
  • Plan and execute technical interchange between GE global reciprocating engine businesses
  • Seek external collaboration to develop and introduce products faster to the market




Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of IT, engineering, scientific or other technical experience)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering position


Desired Characteristics:
Demonstrated track record on solving challenges pertaining to:
  • Engine-Alternator Coupled System –Minimize Unbalance
  • Component / sub-system vibration profiling & accelerated validation
  • Optimize the design, analyses, and mounting of devices onto engine / locomotive
  • Multibody Modeling / Analyses & Vibration of Engine; Alternator; System Mounting; Rail-Wheel-Truck induced vibration
  • Crankshaft balance & damping
  • Gear Train Noise / Harshness & Countermeasures
  • Familiarity with CAE methods for NVH, measurements, analyses
  • Delivering on NVH Objectives though the use of Tools / Methods
  • Develop NVH improvement features – to deliver optimum engine performance (fuel economy, reliability, durability, etc.)
  • Application of acoustic measurements / analyses – FFT, Octave, Sound intensity mapping, Sound power, etc.
  • Structural dynamic analyses – modal analysis, operational modal analysis, frequency analysis, order analysis, etc.
  • Expertise in using – accelerometers, calibration system, etc.
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • PC proficiency
  • Ability to formulate and deliver on strategic engine NVH initiatives
  • Demonstrated commitment to process improvement through continuous improvement and execution speed
