Role Summary:
The Engineering Manager will provide leadership in the direction of technical resources. They will lead a team of project engineers providing work assignments, training, evaluations and will also be accountable for technical solutions of the team's deliverables. The Engineering Manager will work closely with other offices and contractors to ensure team's projects are properly staffed, schedules are hit and budgets are satisfied.

Essential Responsibilities:
As the Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Be responsible for execution to schedule for customer projects including on-time and on-budget
  • Maintain staffing levels of properly trained resources to match business needs
  • Achieve applied time targets for entire team
  • Work with Engineering Leaders to set expectations on productivity standards
  • Work with Engineering Leaders to meet or exceed productivity metrics
  • Manage leased worker staffing levels to meet the requirements of the business
  • Drive Quality (QMS / ISO) and assures compliance for entire team
  • Be responsible for tactical planning and matching of resources to available assignments
  • Perform financial evaluation of project execution to determine improvement opportunities
  • Manage infrastructure, roof tops, engineering specific office equipment
  • Ensure professional Engineering / COA compliance and appropriate staffing certification for projects
  • Develop customer stand-in “Engineering Leader”
  • Qualify technical Contractors for purchased services
  • Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance for self and team including training, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and certifications
  • Drive Engineering Programs and Processes: both internal and specific for customers
  • Drive Quality within engineering deliverables and monitor performance
  • Support Inquiry to Order (ITO) activities and proposals: review technical issues and engineering budget
  • Drive/Own engineering initiatives to support productivity targets
  • Drive Simplification by supporting cross functional teams
  • Support P6 (Scheduling) tool to have tighter control on budget & schedule
  • Manage external engineering services partners to scale resources & proactively plan for project support
  • Have HR responsibilities including performance appraisals, improvement plans, Hiring / Exit process, training & development
  • Compile and executes hiring plans to assure staffing is appropriate to meet business needs
  • Manage and execute training budgets


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of five years of experience in Utility or the Transmission and Distribution Industry
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be willing to work out of an office in Canton, Ohio
  • Availability and willingness to travel - 20% domestic & international; Must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies


Desired Characteristics:
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Excellent computer skills, including automation tools, and familiarity with CAD software
  • Prior GE Experience
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent Quality Certification
  • EIT or PE license in United States
  • Good understanding of safety, operating, maintenance, and testing practices common to utility substations, transmission, and generation facilities
  • Utility field testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting experience
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Proven leadership and ability to orchestrate resources and motivate teams
  • Strong business acumen, fully understands the mission and scope of business
  • Good presence in front of customer with demonstrated commercial experience
  • Strong problem solving abilities
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
