Role Summary:
The Lead Engine Sensor Engineer will lead the development of state-of-the-art engine sensor and harness development across NPI programs and current products. You will be responsible to define the engine sensor suite and drive the design and development in coordination with suppliers and internal stakeholders. You will utilize your experience or expertise in leading others to solve problems with an emphasis on people, product, and process.

Essential Responsibilities:

In addition, you will:
  • Design and develop sensors and harnesses for various engine platforms (Dual Fuel program emphasis but Tier 4, other GEVO and FDL requisitions as well), including qualifying second source and ACO initiatives
  • Work with Prognostics, Controls and Engine Performance engineers to support digital initiatives requiring sensor expertise
  • Support troubleshooting of field sensor issues including CAN based sensors
  • Write purchase specifications and hold design reviews
  • Coordinate with the sensor suppliers
  • Support sensor validation on test bench, engine and locomotive
  • Develop wire schematics for the harness and interface with the locomotive harness on various programs
  • Support installation of sensors on engine and locomotive
  • Provide direction and assistance to work group in order to meet assigned objectives
  • Work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning
  • Execute, with guidance from senior engineering resources, the analysis, design, test, or integration required to define and support assigned components, assemblies or systems that meet business standards and program / product requirements
  • Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers
  • Document and communicate results of technical data generated
  • Participate on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives
  • Share engineering information and promote open dialogue
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business
  • Lead the execution of design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project as well as becoming technically engaged with other functional groups to maintain efficient project execution
  • Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Provide timely communications to technical and line management on significant issues, impacts, or developments which effect schedule, costs, scope of work, or resources
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data is generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks are consistent with engineering policies and procedures


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical/Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 3 years of on-the-job experience in defining and developing mechanical / electrical components


Desired Characteristics:
  • Minimum of 1 year of on-the-job experience in defining and developing engine sensors and harnesses
  • Candidate must also be able to communicate and work closely with engineers in a variety of cross-functional groups, including communication with international team members
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, oral and written
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Personal Computer (PC) proficiency with standardized Microsoft (MS) Office products
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering
  • Familiarity with design, test and analysis tools and systems
  • Strong background in Internal Combustion Engines
  • Experience with the implementation and testing of CAN protocols (J1939, etc.) and CAN tools (Vector Canalyzer)
  • Experience with controls rapid prototyping tools (dSpace, Mototron etc.)
