Role Summary: This position reports to the VP of Global Locomotive Operations (GLO) and Marine, Stationary, Drill (MSD) and is responsible for driving profitable growth through comprehensive life cycle strategy for Locomotive products by technology/ vital organs (i.e. Engines, Controls, Propulsion, disruptive technology). In this role, you will lead a cross-functional team to execute key business growth initiatives and NPI programs by working closely with the regional and functional teams.
Essential Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage a global team responsible for growing product revenue, margin and overall share in the market across product platforms.
Provide direct leadership for the vital organ product managers reporting into the technology product team.
Standardize and drive synergies for engines, controls and propulsion systems across multiple product lines and platforms.
Collaborate with product technology owners and solution teams to normalize/prioritize requirements, account for regulatory compliance trends, simplify the way we deliver to the market place, project sales with accuracy, and be accountable for manufacturing delivery
Define market segmentation and positioning strategies. Identify target markets for product offerings. Define the platform portfolio to meet the needs of the market.
Ensure customer focus by communicating and building rapport with customers and reflect “voice of the customer” in programs and business processes.
Lead a multi-functional organization. Collaborate and influence effectively across the GET matrix (sales, marketing, technology, reliability, supply chain, services).
Determine what geographies we should operate in and identify and build a network of partners within these geographies.
Responsible for a Multi-Generation Product Plan (MGPP) including disruptive technologies and adjacencies that reflects customer insight, clear segment strategy, identification of advanced technology requirements, short and long term priority calls.
Engage on New Product Introduction (NPI) programs and drive NPI execution for delivering on time and on budget.
Anticipate the long-term needs and opportunities for the business in order to create significant market power and sustainable competitive advantage.
Partner with the Vital organs systems engineering team.
Collaborate with the marketing team on best entry into the external market place and best collateral for sales support.
Work with sales / services teams and define the best path to market for proposed product solutions and implement change as necessary.
Align with sales force around the go to market strategy.
Frame and communicate the value proposition and measures against competition.
Lead and develop the product managers in support of the alignment with the Product Management Competency Model, inclusive of these skills: Leadership, Product Strategy, Customer Value Creation, Technology Innovation, Operational excellence, and business acumen.
Develop a high performing team by attracting, retaining and promoting key talent
Develop competitively priced support products
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing or a related field from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 8 years of experience in product management, marketing, sales, or engineering
Minimum of 2 years of experience leading a direct report or cross-functional team
Demonstrated executive leader working with locomotive or similar industrial platform of products
Strategic product management and commercial experiences
Engineering degree and experiences
Track record of creating and executing strategic initiatives and plans and leading their execution on a global level
Strong interpersonal, influencing, and team building skills
Proven ability to work well and influence in a matrix environment
Strong customer relationships
Executive level presentation skills and presence
Experience leading or managing projects of various size, duration, and scope
Strong analytical, financial management and organizational skills
