Role Summary:
Responsible for operational engineering of a set of services. Works independently and contributes to the immediate team and to other teams across business.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Contributes to design discussions.
  • Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts.
  • Ability to take ownership of small and medium sized tasks and deliver while mentoring and helping team members.
  • Has the ability to analyze impact of technology choices.
  • Helps drive pair programming practices and code reviews across the team.
  • Expert in writing code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project.
  • Demonstrates the initiative to explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems.
  • Skilled in core data structures and algorithms and implements them using appropriate chosen language.
  • Demonstrates expert understanding of functional and nonfunctional requirements and their priority within the backlog.
  • Promotes availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency by proactively sharing impact of software design choices on system operations.
  • Understands operating systems and networks and the tools used to diagnose problems and validate solutions.
  • Participate in on call rotation.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Thorough understanding of WebOps technology stack and interworking of each of the components in the stack. (Apache, IIS,Weblogic, JBoss, cloud foundry, datacenter technologies, monitoring and logging tools, Scalr , Jenkins, New Relic, Rally, Linux(OEL/RHEL)…), HA network architectures, and operational procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of WebOps related networks, compute, cloud, virtualization, network infrastructure, telecom networks, circuits, datacenter technologies and best practices.
  • Experience with Chef, Puppet, IIS and/or other automated deployment methodologies
  • Deep expertise in emerging technologies like JBoss,XL Deploy, Chef0, Github, Docker, Scalr, , VMware and Virtualization technologies. Firm understanding of application and infrastructure architectural deliverables.
  • Ability to differentiate technology solutions to solve disaster recovery, high availability, redundant, geographic load balancing and replication needs. Previous experience in startup operations.
  • Ability to see that cloud as a utility delivered non-stop day in and day out.
  • Strong knowledge of change management and version control.
  • Strong knowledge of testing in staging and integration environments
  • Strong knowledge of networks, compute, cloud, virtualization, network infrastructure, telecom networks, circuits, datacenter technologies and best practices.
  • Previous experience in developing troubleshooting guides and technical documents using Confluence.
  • Experience with Windows 2003/2008/IIS6/7, NAS, ASP server, JDBC, Apache support methodologies.
  • Hands-on WebOps technical experience in a
  • cloud/datacenter/Predix service provider cloud engineering team with excellent
  • understanding of key technologies across SaaS/PaaS/IaaS stack
  • Hands on WIN/IIS/UNIX and shell scripting expertise
  • Operational knowledge of Windows, Linux, .NET, and Java platforms
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including security and systems design
  • Ability to lead and follow Agile Scrum methodology
  • Flexible, continuous learner and knowledge sharer.
  • Excellent communicator, works well in team environment, appreciates challenges.
  • Comfortable and effective working in new areas that require experimentation and rapid problem solving.
