Role Summary: To become a total solution provider GEHC Life Sciences needs to strengthen it's position in the Upstream area. The Senior leader will be responsible for further developing technical strength in custom cell culture media development in the global team, adds credibility and assurance in customer interactions/collaborations, oversee projects and support in trouble shooting when needed, and work with business leadership to achieve strategic and financial goals.
Essential Responsibilities: Successfully lead a services operation Scientific leadership and ability to work and act throughout the BioProcess organization • Act as scientific mentor for R&D personnel. • Drive development of cell culture media area within the organization. • Representing the department and the cell culture domain in strategic processes within GEHC, working closely with Marketing and Product marketing to provide scientific, technical and business input. • Generate ideas and patents and facilitate ideas and patents from others. Strong External focus: build, maintain and spread knowledge in entire organization • Build and maintain an external network covering customers, technology and science. • Initiate and lead external collaborations. • Build and maintain good knowledge of competitors and competing products/technologies. • External visibility by oral and poster presentations at external conferences and/or by publishing papers in scientific journals. • Actively work to network and contribute with know-how across the Life Sciences R&D organization
• Driving elements of the multi-generational product plan as well as product specific development plans • Multi-generation segment technology planning and rationalization experience with an excellent understanding of product system architecture(s), platforms and core technologies • Influencing strategic development of global product roadmaps with a focus on technical differentiation that addresses key customer needs • Influencing segment leadership and segment direction through action-oriented recommendations based upon market, competition, and technology • Serving as a technical readiness focal point for all pertinent personnel and/or customers • Coaching and mentoring in order to develop the engineering community in process, career growth and technical excellence
PhD or similar competence in Biotechnology or related area.
12 years progressive experience as an engineer or scientist within the appropriate field of study
Extensive experience from Industry work in Upstream area, and with focus on Cell culture media development and cell culture optimization.
Demonstrated experience driving technology and segment planning processes with a focus on differentiation and financial return
Demonstrated ability to influence and drive segment direction utilizing internal and external resources on segment initiatives
Demonstrated strategic planning with experience in driving technical changes across a segment of products External visibility by oral and poster presentations at scientific conferences and/or by publishing papers in scientific journals
Large experience with customer interactions and sound business thinking. Strong understanding of industry trends.
Experience in providing Scientific/Technical services
Strong leadership skills. Structured and organized team player. Strong communication skills
Fluent in English both verbally and in writing
Desired Characteristics: 1. PhD Degree in Engineering or equivalent (defined as 12 years progressive experience within engineering, science, or related field, including 5 years project leadership experience within manufacturing, development, or research development) 2. 7 years project leadership experience within manufacturing, development or research environment 3. Strategic planner and thinker with ability to drive change across the segment products 4. Sound technical and domain experience in at least one functional technology area 5. Demonstrated experience on global product releases throughout the entire NPI cycle 6. Strong written and oral communication skills 7. Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi-task 8. Demonstrated problem solving ability and results orientation 9. Demonstrated LEAN skills
