Role Summary: Assignments will be challenging and experienced engineers will mentor students in the EID Program. As an intern, you will get exposure to different parts of the Energy Connections business and will have a chance to attend training and development sessions. We want you to learn about the whole GE culture - not just how we work, but how we combine work and fun to create an atmosphere that promotes camaraderie and learning.
Essential Responsibilities: An intern will be given career development opportunity and corporate exposure, as well as future consideration into the Operations Management Leadership Program OMLP at GE. Intern/Co-op assignments may include but are not limited to: materials planning & supply chain management, inventory management, manufacturing process improvement through LEAN/cost-reduction, sourcing and purchasing of product, working with environmental/health/safety teams, facilities engineering, etc. Product lines which may include smart metering, electric vehicle charging stations, smartgrid, transformers, electrical substation, circuit breakers, switchgear, etc.
EID Responsibilities Manufacturing:
Learn and work on projects designed to improve our assembly and production. Gain hands on experience in project management and lean facilitation. You will work within a manufacturing environment to evaluate and identify areas for improvement and implement these improvements. Additional projects may involve working with cross- teams that focus on improving the quality of production areas. Sourcing: Achieve lowest possible cost for material, balanced against optimum quality and schedule needs. You may solicit and evaluate proposals employing appropriate negotiation, cost and price analysis techniques, using available expertise from supporting organizations; Additional projects may involve implementing purchase contracts following applicable company and government regulations.
About the OMLP Program:
The Operations Management Leadership Program (OMLP) is an ideal entry point for engineers with the energy and drive to define and deliver world-class manufacturing processes, products and services. Possible assignments include shop operations, process engineering, lean manufacturing, global supply chain management, materials management, and sourcing. OMLP is a two-year program consisting of three eight-month rotations that allow members to build leadership and functional skills.
Qualifications/Requirements: Must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (without rounding) Must be enrolled full-time in a graduate or undergraduate degree program. Must submit your application for employment through http://www.gecareers.com to be considered. Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process. Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process Preference will be given to persons with a major in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering. Other accepted majors: environmental engineering, chemical engineering, material science engineering, supply chain management/industrial management.
Desired Characteristics: -Strong commitment to career in manufacturing -Strong interest in the Operations Management Leadership Program (OMLP) -Strong interpersonal and communication skills -Must demonstrate initiative and leadership abilities -Geographic flexibility. Must be willing to relocate.
Preference will be given to persons with a major in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, demonstrated analytic approach to problem solving, exhibited leadership through campus and community activities and or work experience, demonstrated initiative, self-confidence, communication, and interpersonal skills.
